Woolworths' ‘Making the Difference through Design'Some 300 Grade 10, 11 and 12 learners from local high schools had their eyes opened to a world of possibilities when they took part in the fourth annual schools day at the Design Indaba Expo. Held in conjunction with the Design Indaba Conference, the Design Indaba Expo showcases the best of local design and features advertising, architecture, craft, décor, film, fashion, graphic design, interior design, jewellery, new media, publishing, product design and visual media. The Woolworths Making the Difference through Design stand at the Expo proved a good place to start. The stand, which featured the winning entries from the 2008 edition of the programme's annual design competition, also highlighted some of the many ways Woolworths is promoting design and design education in South Africa. It forms part of what Woolworths describes as ‘the circle of design' which encompasses a total of eight stands. In addition to Woolworths, the circle of design includes the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, the Cape Craft and Design Institute, the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism, the Department of Arts and Culture, finalists of the House & Leisure ‘Green Designers at Woolworths' competition, the Cape Town Partnership, as well as the Loeries Awards stand.
