The World of First Growth wines at Taj, Cape Town

The Taj, Cape Town's Presidential Suite and roof terrace, was recently the setting for a unique and exclusive event where celebrities, leading entrepreneurs and fine wine enthusiasts rubbed shoulders while tasting an array of wines from around the world. "The World of First Growths" event was a tasting by the private members' club of the same name, showcasing some of the best wines in the world since the beginning of 2009.

Fashion designer David Tlale, co-founder and executive chairman of the Vantage Capital Group, Mutle Mogase, founder and CEO of Triton Oil and Gas SA, and Julie Donnai, were among the prestigious guests. Rene Dehn hosted the exclusive tasting where guests enjoyed renowned wines from more than 24 French, Italian, Spanish, Australian, American and South African estates. The wines were official first growths with a "history of greatness" due to their extraordinary craftsmanship and consistently exceptional quality.

The fine wine selection featured many wines rarely available in South Africa, such as Château Pétrus 1961, Château Cheval Blanc 1993 and Screaming Eagle 1997, with champagnes and dessert wines from across the world. The Taj Cape Town's signature Indian cuisine restaurant, Bombay Brasserie, complemented the prestigious wine selection with delicacies such as Bhuni Makai Ka Shorba (roasted yellow corn soup with turmeric popcorn), Ambi Jeenga Tikka (green mango-flavoured prawns) and Kasuri Murgh Tariwala (home-style chicken curry infused with fenugreek).

This world tour of the First Growth Wine Tastings continues to Hong Kong and New York.
