Is MNET Almighty?
On Sunday night when I heard that M-Net was not to screen "Bruce Almighty" as advertised I thought the reason would be a religious one, after all when the film was released there was a relatively large outcry. However I was astonished to hear that it was in sensitivity to the Tsunami.

Now for those of you who haven't seen the film or can't remember it, the only reference to a Tsunami is made on a television news report in the background of a scene - No it is not at any point a focus of the movie.

Just to put things in perspective about 800 South Africans were affected but the Tsunami directly with 16 being killed (last I checked). Altogether including family members that's an approximate total of 4000 South Africans who were directly or indirectly affected. Interestingly enough the film broadcast instead of "Bruce Almighty" was "The Hunted", a rather violent film.

Now I generally enjoy violence on television, forgive me we all have vices, but if it's insensitive to show a reference to the Tsunami then how can it be very sensitive to show media packed with violence when every South African has been affected by violence in some way or another? In fact by M-Net's own logic they should cancel CSI, the next series of 24 and even homegrown shows like Snitch (which they should do anyway to save us all the embarassment).

I did phone them and express my opinion however it seems they couldn't care, it's just sad to think that there are such morons running things there. I'd like to know what everyone else thinks, can we really afford to take things and life so seriously?
