We would Have given you a show tp present!-
Had you come to us for training we would have given you a show to present as part of your development. sorry that how it goes training and running around. Posted on 6 Feb 2007 09:25
What a pointless response...-
@ GBH, you seem to have such a high and mighty know-it-all attitude. Your response in this case is of absolutely no use to the poster of the question, and reeks of sour grapes that they in fact did not do your course.

Some constructive advice would have been welcomed here, and perhaps you need to learn how to communicate more effectively.

Your kind of attitude is not welcome in our industry, thank you.

For people looking to gain experience in radio, i would recommend that you draw together a good comprehensive CV, along with a showreel CD with samples of your work, and bring it to the various community stations in your area. Show them you are serious, and they will take you seriously. Speak to the Station Manager, or the Programmes Manager, and no one else, unless instructed to by either of them. Keep on hounding them until they repsond. They are usually very busy, so patience is definitely needed.

You can get a list of the radio stations in your area from ICASA. The list of stations is not always as up to date as it should be, but it is a good place to start. Find it here: http://www.icasa.org.za/Documents.aspx?Page=124

Good luck. Posted on 23 Mar 2007 11:59
Al.....al I couldn't Agree More!!!!-
But for you to over look the fact that community radio stations are solely relying on contributions and people like this individual don’t want to invest in such project and when trouble struck they want to be rescued by the same project they didn’t see value in the first place.
And yes! I do have a know it all attitude because people like yourself don’t pay attention the youth development in this country when we come up with such project, and we need money to empower our youth you’ll always refer them to some commercial institutions, and what happens after that no one cares.
We develop and train our own DJ as you have just stipulated about ICASA policies we do provide them with skills, we don’t have any funding, we have to make money out of training our presenters, and we give them shows to present so that they can gain that experience they so need.
You claim this form is not for people like me, maybe you have a short vision and I’ll accept that.
Have you ever given yourself time to listen those CD you are referring to, I betcha you haven’t I deal with this all the time, and I give advise where needed, and positively too, who are you to go on blow up on me like that? why don’t you try it maybe you’ll stop being short sighted.
Some of these dears can’t even read the news, and I ask myself who was training this person. You shouldn’t do thing just for money and hope that some community radio station will stop running around looking for funding and pay attention to a job badly done.
I was right by what I said, had this individual invested in us this would have opened an opportunity for him, and not run around looking for none money making radio station to give him or her that chance.
You call this your industry why didn’t you respond to this person, and give him/her hope, you wont do it because you are comfortable in your comfort zone, instead of you coming up with a solution since you have noted my response you choose to attack me and still has the audacity to say I have an attitude….good luck and stop being so self righteous.
