What a pleasure to wake up to Alex on 94.7 now that the Rude Awakening team is on leave!

Alex Jay's witty commentary, music knowledge, all-round pleasant personality and sexy voice make for a welcome change to the vulgar, offensive and inane twaddle that emanates from Jeremy and his laughing hyaena team.
They are an insult to anyone of average intelligence and a bad reflection on the citizens of Jozi. Is it not time to retire them and put Alex in the morning slot?

What about Gilman in the morning?!-
Who wants to wake up to Mark Gilman (5fm) and his shrill screaming? And Jozi must deserve some of the rep 'coz why else would he migrate there from laidback Cape Town?

Glad Alex is keeping busy - he has charisma and doesn't rely on controversy or contentiousness to further his career. Posted on 21 Jul 2004 18:08

Get a life!-
Both of you - get a life! Gillman and Mansfield would both be sacked if they weren't pulling the audiences... Are they still employed? YES... Are they still popular? YES!

Listen to Jacaranda if you want non-offensive, good clean (boring) radio!

Viva Gillman... Posted on 22 Jul 2004 08:24

Yes, Gillman ... the epitome of jewish angst. Mansfield is good, Cowen and Sideropoulos are the weak links. Posted on 26 Jul 2004 13:32

Silly old Commentator-
Quoting Commentator: "Both of you - get a life! Gillman and Mansfield would both be sacked if they weren't pulling the audiences... Are they still employed? YES... Are they still popular? YES!"

He's making a sad comment about our South African audiences - he is unfortunately correct :(

It's only the Media and Marketing boffins in here who recognise Gillman and Mansfield for the twits they are. But lemme tell you - even they are better than Howard Stern ever was in the US!

Rock on Alex Jay, and yes, I miss the UK Radio Stations too ... Posted on 27 Jul 2004 13:46

I'm tunning to rude awakening 'morrow am.-
Matthew P, i'm sorry but i love listening to Gilman 'cause he makes me giggle my way to work. And believe me, i need that to get though the traffic.

However, thanks for the revelation. I'm on to Highveld 'morrow.

Alex rocks!!! Posted on 26 Jul 2004 16:29
second-hand listener
why highveld anyway???-
Why listen to highveld anyway???! Don't you have your own two cd's to play continuously throughout the day? I don't know how they manage to keep listeners by repeating the same playlist two or three times every day. Maybe it says something about the listeners.

A special greeting to the lady in my office who keeps her radio tuned to 94.7 from 8 to 5..... Posted on 22 Jul 2004 09:07
I love Alex
Away with Mansfield!-
yes Calliope, I'm right behind you! You absolutely cannot get any better than Alex Jay and I agree, that ridiculous Rude Awakening team must seriously get the boot. It's time. Posted on 22 Jul 2004 10:16

I agree-
I love waking up to Alex. His voice is so much nicer, his attitude and sense of humour is also so much better.. its naughty but not smutty!

We dont listen to 94.7 anymore thanks to the smut... (eventhough I am 26 and at the height of smuttiness) haha

Well done alex! and welcome back!

Alex for Breakfast - Getting it all hey? -
Oh gosh, I just moved to Cape Town this week and radio plain sucks down here. I can't believe you guys in Jo'burg are waking up to Alex J. I'm so very, very jealous. Posted on 23 Jul 2004 15:44

AGREE!!!-
I agree! Fabulous to wake up listening to alex!! It feels like I'm driving home, while I 'm actually driving to work. Whoohaa! Posted on 23 Jul 2004 15:47
Become a DJ in 3 easy steps-
1. Purchase any 'latest hits' CD and put on repeat
2. Shout so people will be fooled into thinking you're funny / have something important to say
3. Employ shock tactics so that you can be fired and re-instated on an on-going basis. What's the point?

I'm sorry, I do think local is lekker and better most of the time, but I do miss the UK radio stations. Posted on 23 Jul 2004 18:08
???Become a DJ in 3 easy steps???-
Sorry I don't agree...

Obviously you don’t know how a radio station operates; DJ’s in SA are not allowed to play their own CD’s (for your info stations use PC’s playback systems these day’s and not CD’s). (You are surely not in the industry) And It’s not all DJ's who shout on air or have shock tactic’s,* you are tuned to the wrong station. Most DJ’s in our country are following strict guidelines from their program managers. You can’t compare UK radio with SA radio - - - There’s a big difference… Posted on 10 Aug 2004 03:41

Yes Yes Yes!!!-
I guess you have your Highveld fans and your 5fm fans and the 'twain shall never meet'... As a latter supporter I HAVE to agree that Mark Gilman has a long way to go to be more childish, irritating, sarcastic, common and downright plebian than the so-called 'Rude Awakening' team.

Yes, a very appropriate calling card - for waking up with that bunch in my ear is guaranteed to be a very bad start to any day... Posted on 28 Jul 2004 08:46
Andrew
Alex Jay, Tony Blewitt, Mark Pilgrim, Mark Gillman and Darren Scott-
These are (in my mind) the best DJ's at the moment. Why can't some independant financier think about getting these lads onto their own station and ripping the market away from tired old Radio 5 (the name changed ages ago...but they're still tired!) and Highveld. I would more than definitely listen to these chaps than any other DJ in SA...wouldn't everyone else? Posted on 28 Jul 2004 16:22

Alex, wherefore art thou??-
yes Andrew - I'm right behind you. what could we call the station though? I really have missed Alex this week now that we have that other fat twit back.

how shall we raise the cash? Posted on 29 Jul 2004 14:50
Alex groupie
YESSSSSS!!!-
Yes, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - somebody start a national youth station that does NOT rely on some bribed-up, overrated, bollocks overseas chart to tell South Africans what they want to hear!!!

Just imagine: Alex Jay, Mark Pilgrim, Darren Scott, Phil Wright, Barney Simon et al... all on the same station, punting REAL music, as only they can!

Bliss. Posted on 30 Jul 2004 19:36

Do you really want to know why he's Alex? Never mind, it's not fair to make fun of someone's miscomprehension of Shakespeare... Posted on 12 Aug 2004 18:21

May I please come and work at your new station. There is nowhere I would rather work.

I have to admit though, I do love Gillman. Posted on 28 Oct 2004 13:57

Just ICE (Justice Ramohlola)former metrofm Breakfast host was the best-
Just Ice was the best, its a pity that he was sacked or his contract was not renewed.I miss him terribly.I am tired of Glen Lewis(metrofm)DJ Fresh(YFM) and Bob Mabhena (Khayafm).May be I must try Jacaranda Posted on 17 Jan 2005 16:34

Hela People...
The mornings are no longer the same(not just the morning but Radio in general) since the departure of The Phat One(JOJO) Kambule. So since Bob is leaving Charlene should consider JOJO for the job then breakfast will get a whole lot better(not taking anything away from Thato & Thato they are fun to listen to).
If you agree with me say JOJO!!!!!Hope Charlene is seriously considering this. Posted on 27 Jan 2005 11:14

KAGISHO-
Unfortunately I am in Upington and cannot listen to Just Ice on Khaya Fm but I say listeners who are able to catch him are in for a real treat. I used to listen to Just Ice and Kutlwano Skosana on Metro FM during my varsity days and they rocked. Hey Ice, How about recruiting Kutloano if she not busy at Blackrage productions? You guys will revive the good old days of rocking radio. I think Glen has seen better days and made a lot of money on radio and must consider disappearing from the airwaves.
