What ever happened to people seeing potential

What ever happened to peopl e recognising potential in creatives?
You know, it breaks my heart to see that people no longer hire you on the fire that burns inside, but more so on a matter of BEEE status or experience. I spend every moment of my day thinking up ideas, and yearning for a shot at goal. But I guess my aim is far off. To be told that you would sit day and night with ample amounts of coffee tackling an idea is not enough to give you a shot. They rather say come back in 3 months. My question is this: If no-one is going to show me the ropes, am I forever going to be told to come back? One shot. Not one day, but Today. That's all I ask for. A copywriter of note is my mission - change the way you think. Being a creative is tough, but being yourself is even harder. But I refuse to give up. I don't follow trends, I set them.

    Just a thought:-
If you had put your number somewhere, perhaps someone would have given you a call. Posted on 23 Sep 2010 09:48

    Go solo then-
If you're burning with creativity THAT MUCH and cant find a job opportunity, my advice is: Use your creativity to start your own creative/marketing/communications/branding/advertising company where you can put your creativity to FULL use and prove your worth without amy limits or boundaries. SA is a sleeping country as far as creative business and innovation are concerned. Opportunities are there for the taking for anyone who is interested and has the talent. Posted on 23 Sep 2010 13:14

    I agree with Sello-
You make your own opportunities. Go solo!
Quite frankly, I wouldn't hire someone on potential alone either. I want to see results. Do some free work and build a portfolio. Get some references, find a gap in the market. Keep pushing until it happens. Posted on 25 Sep 2010 15:21
    Work for free-
Dod what a lot of us did and work for free at a company you respect for a while. You'll get some major experience and you'll have a chance to prove exactly how creative you are. Posted on 30 Sep 2010 12:29

Creative - is it an induvidual opinion?-
Yes everyone has potential, some more than others but it is also how the employer or client sees you, your work, and how they can benifit from hiring you.
I know a few people that are more creative than me, but they get distracted by putting their other prioreties in front of what they can produce for an award winning campain.
You must put in 1000%, but you have to target your market to get results, create what the client (or potential employer) is looking for, yes we still dont always know, there is an art to cornering the client with options to make a final decision.
If you do work for free, you may not be as commited to quality results as there is no reward or penalty for money, production, customer service, etc. but thats up to you, the great thing is that once you get paid, you will get more inspired and will pump it!
Dont be shy, dont let anyone knock you, there are lots of Pre-Madona's
, beeeg egos, and people that have been hired through nepetism, these are the loose canons in the boardroom, they have to shout in order to show authority in order to keep their position because they were not hired on skills.
This is all a vast opinionated speel, because im still on holiday, wish you all the best Posted on 7 Jan 2011 10:40
