Wendy Luhabe, rated as one of the world's 50 leading women entrepreneurs, chairs Alliance Capital, International Marketing Council, Vodacom, Industrial Development Corporation and Vendome Distributors and pioneered the founding of the first investment company to be owned by women called Wiphold. This initiative revolutionarised the participation of women in the economy. Wiphold listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, making it the first women owned company on the Exchange.
In February 2003 she launched a R120m Venture Capital Fund for women owned enterprises, a first fund of this nature for South Africa.
She has been a non-executive director of both listed and unlisted companies since the age of 36 ranging from Finance, FMCG, Telecommunications, Industrial Development, and Luxury Goods to Asset Management and is currently on the board of the Johannesburg Securities Exchange.
Wendy is the recipient of two honorary doctorates from the University of Fort Hare, her alma mater and the University of Stellenbosch.
