Sucessful strategies to combat violence in the workplace
Violence has taken a new perspective both in the workplace and the economy. Violence is no longer an isolated incident; it has infiltrated our society, and spilled over into the workplace. Increasing pressures and stress combined with soaring crime rates, makes violence a daily threat to all organisations. It can occur without warning and can be devastating for both business and the victims involved. Often the consequences of violence in the workplace far outlast the actual event, leaving scars that last a life time. Today violence has moved from conventional events of labour conflict and mass mobilisation to hostage taking, acts of terrorism, syndicated armed attacks, wild shooting and arson attacks. No organisation can afford to ignore the facts; violence in the workplace can be prevented and managed. The African Information Institute have put together a 2-day intensive and practical “Preventing and managing violence in the workplace” training programme, which will equip organisations with the necessary knowledge, tools and techniques to understand, prevent and minimise the impact of violence before it occurs.
By attending this programme, you will: • Gain a deeper understanding of violence • Indentify threats to the workplace • Calculate the economic impact of violence • Apply tools and techniques to monitor, manage and counter potentially violent situations • Anticipate, recognise and respond to violent situations in an appropriate manner • Come to grips with the legal aspects of workplace violence • Develop a workplace violence prevention strategy • Prepare a Roadmap for implementation in the Workplace “Preventing and managing violence in the workplace” training programme, takes place on the 31st of January and the 1st of February 2008, at the Hotel Apollo, Randburg.
