Full-moon picnic at the Taalmonument

Our first full-moon picnic for the year 2013 will be taking place at the Afrikaanse Taalmonument

Picnic lovers shouldn't miss the first full-moon picnic of the year at the Taalmonument on Paarl Mountain on Saturday 26 January. Local as well as international visitors enjoy these picnics for the unbeaten sunset and night time views of the valley.

Moonrise is at 19:15 and sunset is at 19:55 (it is one day before full moon). There will be guided tours of the monument at 18:30 and 19:30. The monument will be open until 22:00.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets or they can order one from Volksmond Coffee Shop (tel. 021 863 2800 Volksmond will be open until 22:00 for coffee and light refreshments.

Entrance fees at the gate are R15 for adults, R10 for students and R5 for children. No booking required. Visitors are reminded to bring a torch and warm clothes. No dogs and fires are allowed. Safe parking is available and access is controlled.

A new addition to this year's full-moon picnics is a photo competition on the Taalmonument's Facebook page, with various prizes to be won.

Full-moon picnics are also scheduled for Saturday 23 February (sunset 19:30, moonrise 17:49) and Thursday 28 March (sunset 18:45, moonrise 20:05).

The monument's operating hours will be extended until 20:00 for the summer season from October to March.
