What are the key functions of Leadership? A key function of leadership is to initiate change, says Peter Block, international leadership teacher and author of best sellers, 'Flawless Consulting - a Guide to Getting Your Expertise Used' and 'Community: The Structure of Belonging'. And, says Block, a second if not more important function of the modern leader is to convene! It follows then that today's leaders need to know about bringing people together (convening community) and connecting them in service of something greater than themselves (change). These key functions of leadership are more about empowering people than managing them; more about engaging people than controlling them; more about building-up people than directing them. This leadership of engagement and convening requires a shift in thinking from old modes of problem-solving, cause and effect thinking to thinking about possibility, about innovating and about co-creating the future. And this new thinking is about language. Sustainable change occurs when we engage people in conversations that have the capacity to create an alternative future; when we engage each other in conversations that really matter. How can you learn this Leadership? Six Conversations for a New Leadership - Leadership Language in Action, is a workshop based on Peter Block's work in leadership and community-change processes. This workshop invites participants to experience these new conversations in real time and understand how, as leaders, they can transform their teams, organisations, communities.
