Leading change in education

Despite huge expenditure, our education system remains in crisis. These workshops offer a coherent theory of change for education. Delegates will learn how to develop a roadmap for transformational change in their local schools.

About the Workshop:
South Africa spends 5.3% of its GDP and 20% of total state expenditure on Education. Despite this investment, we are doing far worse than most other developing countries. While there are many change initiatives, these have delivered limited results primarily due to the fact that people who are asked to lead change have not had the opportunity to learn the art and science of Leading Change. There is also no coherent change framework that underpins the many different change initiatives.
During the past two years, Dr Louise van Rhyn (a veteran change practitioner) has made it her business to understand the Education landscape in South Africa. She has also worked in partnership with many principals and education officials who are grappling with leading change and has launched an innovative leadership development programme that partners business leaders with school principals in a co-learning and co-action partnership.
In response to many requests, she will be facilitating a series of workshops entitled "Leading Change in Education". These are Foundational workshops and will be followed by more advanced workshops later in the year.
Louise believes that both a lack of a coherent theory of change and an understanding of how change happens in a complex social system are the two main reasons why South Africans have not yet seen the benefit from all the billions of Rands invested in education. The purpose of these workshops is to offer a solution to this challenge.
