The next frontier - Mon, 20 Oct 2014Carol Pineau suspects that if one were to create a map of data sets throughout the world, it would look much like the electricity map - data overload in the US, Europe and parts of Asia, yet a mere sprinkling around North Africa, South Africa, Lagos and Kenya. She reckons data is the next frontier and that it matters enormously.

Ian Henderson gives some tips on how to make your app go global. According to Henderson, putting mobile apps within reach of a global audience is one of the easiest steps companies can take to tap into the market of more than one billion potential online smartphone customers.

Last week saw the 17th AfricaCom Awards shortlist released. 161 entries were received this year and the winners will be announced on 12 November 2014 at The Waterfront Lookout, Cape Town.

In other news, CareerJunction's most recent salary survey reveals a 20% increase in IT salaries, and TBWA\Africa's conference, set to take place from 22-24 October in Mozambique, will focus on the scope for sustained business expansion across sub-Saharan markets.
