By Leigh Andrews

Hashtag celebrations and industry inspiration - Mon, 28 Aug 2017Welcome to the new week! We kick off with the news that the hashtag is ten years old. Hard to believe it's been just a decade since its introduction to online posts and making social media that much more manageable. Click through to find out just how American designer and social media expert Chris Messina turned the ‘pound sign' into a tweet necessity, as well as the top three hashtags from the past year.

We also unpack the fact that the Democratic Alliance's complaints over Bell Pottinger's work for Gupta-owned Oakbay Capital stand. A final decision over its breaching of the Public Relations and Communications Association's Code of Conduct is expected in the first week of September.

While the dust has settled on Loeries 2017, we still have lots to unpack for you. First up, Jessica Tennant chats to TBWA/RAAD's CCO Walid Kanaan on winning an integrated Grand Prix, which he dubs the ‘mother of all categories', as well as his views on why the Mena region, and more particularly UAE/Dubai, is becoming more and more competitive with creativity and innovation as basic market requirements.

I also chat to Loeries Chair-Aunty Suhana Gordhan on the mayhem and magic of Loeries Creative Week. She shares her gratitude for all the industry has afforded her, like the chance to give back through the Open Chair initiative, as well as the constant challenge of juggling her Loeries duties with her day-to-day responsibilities at FCB and in other realms of life.

A true inspiration to all as we continue our #WomensMonth coverage - click through for your own dose of industry inspiration...
