Jawitz Properties off to a bad start - 4 Jan 2016

By Leigh Andrews

2016 has kicked off, and while everyone is looking forward to a (hopefully) positive year, Jawitz Properties finds itself in a rather bad situation. One of its estate agents, Penny Sparrow, wrote an offensive post regarding the KZN beaches on New Year's Day. Social media has erupted over her statement and Jawitz's reputation has now been jeopardised.

In this exclusive piece, Tiffany Markman lets us in on how a company can manage a social media storm, and some of the necessary procedures to have in place in case of a crisis.

In Damon Stapleton's latest article, he takes a look into the death of advertising, and after doing some research, he says that perhaps advertising is not shrinking. Perhaps, despite all the negative opinions and depressing emails and blogs, advertising is growing. As Oscar Wilde said, "The truth is... never simple."

And lastly, Stephen Sandmann takes us into the world of creativity, what it is and why it plays a central role in digital marketing. He gets further insights from group executive creative director at Quirk, Fran Luckin. One thing that stood out is that many people argue that judgements about what's creatively excellent and what isn't are purely subjective.

Here's to a happy and health 2016!
