As a millennial I am always seeking experiences that go beyond doing business for clients because I believe there has to be a bigger purpose tied to the work that one does. I can say I experienced this during my internship at GREY Africa, which confirmed my belief that there is definitely something compelling about advertising.
This was one of the pressing topics that was debated at Careers24 The Future of HR Summit, involving industry leaders and HR professionals in the country. Various concerns around people management were part of this heated discussion; however, the core subject remained the importance of recruiting people that fit the company culture to drive productivity.

There are many articles that have been written, and continue to be, around the concept of a "skills gap" or "skills shortage". More and more South Africans are matriculating and getting their tertiary qualifications, yet struggle to find a job in the workplace. There are a large percentage of graduates who are taking (often unpaid) internships simply to get a foot in the door.
Hands up anybody who leapt out of bed this morning and yelled, "Yes, it's Monday, I can't wait to get to work!" Anybody? But you know what, some people probably did... The world of work - even what we define as work - is changing. And that might just be a very good thing indeed.

We've all experienced the type of candidate that you are blown away by in an interview. She not only meets the requirements of the job, but she could hit the ground running because her understanding of the role is so perfect. She's done almost the exact job before. She speaks five languages, is learning to code in her free time, is a keen (and gifted) photographer and everyone who has met her through the interview process has fallen slightly in love.

Students from the Job Readiness Initiative, sponsored by Careers24 and implemented with partners Silulo Ulutho Technologies (Pty) Ltd and Learn to Earn (NGO-PBO), graduated in Phillipi and Khayelitsha in the first week of July. The pilot initiative focused on working with students who either are studying to improve their career prospects or to find employment in different sectors to where they are currently working.
