Hi,Just because you are in marketing that doesn't make you Radio material, you'll probably need training as the are thing you need to learn such as: Voice projection, Mannerism, Mike Technique, and Interview Skill, and News Compillation and Reading these are all the skill you need to have develop. You don't just get into Radio because you have a certain experience, people must take Radio serious, and as professional career. Think about investing in yourself as you did with marketing, surely you didn't just apply for the position taking a risk with no experience or a diploma in this respect you must have gone to some college to earn your right to apply for this job at hand. so you would for radio, it's not all about playing music and saying what you want when you feel like, and dis-obeying the rules of radio discipline is very Important. I'm not trying to do you down but you must play by the rules.
I've also recently posted a question on the forum and got the 3rd degree from respondents. Why are people in the marketing industry so agressive? Some of us would like to grow as marketers, others in radio? Why crucify us for asking for advice - sheez! I thought this was what this website was all about? The site is very informative and I feel that respondents should stick to the learning attitude of the site...
Sorry I think you read between the lines Spikkle!! - gbh
I didn't mean to sound as yu have mis-interpreted I think you read between the lines, all I was saying was we all need to be serious about what we do and good at it, there are people you don't think radio can be a long term career. Who wants to waste someone else opportunity, and even theirs, we in this business we take it very....very serious and make no mistake about that.
I fully agree with you, some people can be so aggressive.I really don't think that you need to sit in a lecture room to know how to present in radio you just need talent which comes naturally and you have to be passionate about radio. The other staff you will learn by doing.Look around Linda Sbiya in Ukhozi fm , DJ Sbu , Chilli M & Dineo , Glen Lewis these guys are gifted they didn't need Diploma or Degrees to do the good job they are doing.
Hi there, you intrested in radio thats fantastic! Marketing is an off-air activity in radio. So what i suggest is contact your nearest community station armed with cool ideas as to how to not only market the station better to listeners but also ideas that could keep listeners tuned in eg: competitions or on-air to web site links and promos. If you are willing to learn and show enthusiasm very few community stations will refuse what you offer. Good-luck, and if you wanna contact me send a mail 2 kovsiefm@yahoo.com
