Radio: Still a force to be reckoned with
Hi Anathi, as much as we have witnessed a drop in TV viewership and print readership, marketers still view visual content as an integral part of their marketing efforts. Add social media to the fray and radio is now competing with all of these channels which use pictures and video for a slice of the marketing budget. I understand your reservations as a radio person but we need to understand put ourselves in the marketer's shoes and it is up to people like you to continue advocating for radio.

Stop marketing your brand!
Good story Helen, and fully agreed.

In my experience, the rise of the 'Social Media Manager' is at the heart of all the noise. These well-meaning individuals are generally hired with the sole purpose of gathering huge numbers of followers, and then promptly given zero content to work with.

Because social media is an afterthought rather than a driving force in marketing discussions (with the majority of focus on bolting social media onto the back of print and TV campaigns), after a while the social media managers start to die a little inside and their content suffers.

When social media becomes a job for somebody, and that somebody isn't empowered to have authentic conversations or skilled enough to generate their own content, you just get a nasty feedback loop where the only sound out of the speaker is an earsplitting whine.

Too melodramatic? Lol, you get the point.

10% Airbnb growth in Cape Town
I recently made a booking through airbnb for a room in Spain. While it appears to be reasonably priced there are plenty of extra costs. You pay an initial service fee on top of your booking and if there are any changes, as in my case, where the Host asked me to pay another Euros 50 as i was not staying longer than a month. Even though the rate on the airbnb listing is stated as monthly. Airbnb then charge you another service fee on top of the original service fee. You must also be very careful of the individual hosts cancellation fees as there are different levels. I tried to cancel my booking over a month before the arrival date and discovered that I would not get any refund and that I would still have to pay for a full month. So be very, very careful and read absolutely every clause you can find before making this booking as airbnb accept absolutely no responsibility despite many requests for them to help me.

Only partly true. If you want to be treated like a professional you should look like one. You wouldn't choose a dentist with tattoos and dirty fingernails would you? (Or perhaps you would)

Some of the best creative I have ever worked with were there because they were creative and nothing else. They were good at it. Advertising isn't as fun as it used to be, it is painful actually and would recommend that you know why you are doing it. Fame or fortune? That will guide your path... Good luck!

SABC to apologise for 'scornful' presenter
I think that Mr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi take a crash course in how to answer questions directly and honestly, without all the obfuscation and waffle. He was little credit to his organisation in this instance. Has anyone thought of reporting Ndloz to the BCCSA?
Eben should, however, have shown more maturity on this occasion. He gave the man a chance to answer or make a coherent statement on the topic. I guess both failed on the day.

Cell C launches girl child alumni programme
I have always been interested in this innitiative, mainly due to it's aim. However since it's inception ,I viewed it as a "time bomb" and I still view it that way.

Regardless of it's good intentions .that young boy child is growing up with questions in his mind and hence ,we will keep on experiencing all this violence against women ,especially during "women month.".

Foundation for Human Rights statement on xenophobic violence
I do agree with your statement, however I have been following and listening to both goverment and society at large,my concern is that as long as we have people calling radio stations and remaing anonimous while expressing their anger and frustraions.I think we should be worried. We are being a bit myopic in our search for long term solution.

My cousin from Germany wrote this essay and now she is a delegate from her country! And she told it was extremely hard. Her English is not strong enough and she asked Smart custom writing service for proofreading her article. This summit is a good way of communication between the countries.

SABC to apologise for 'scornful' presenter
I have to agree with Eben Janssen! APARTHEID had nothing to do with the interview that was to be carried out by Eben Janssen! What was being discussed was the issue of the statues being vandalized! As usual, there is a LACK OF UNDERSTANDING of the ENGLISH language and the merits of the questions posed to Mr Ndlozi! He tried to 'hijack' & sidetrack the interview, with something that was unrelated to the issue being discussed! I propose that Eben Janssen be re-instated in his position, as he seems to be one of the few seasoned journalists, who will not give any South African a chance to take us back in time to APARTHEID! And may I suggest to Mr Ndlozi - a crash course in the English language, PLEASE!!! Seems you do not understand the questions posed to you!!! I take my hat off to you, Eben Janssen - and if you are not re-instated - well, then you & I both know who actually "makes decisions" at the SABC!!!

SABC boss hides R500m loss from parliament
Unbelievable! This man misleads South Africa at every step, and now will, no doubt, be found to have misled, if not lied, to Parliament. This is what happens when you put someone in charge of an organisation like the SABC that hasn't a clue what he is doing and runs it for political gain - nothing else. And there is no accountability. How long do you think the country can sustain this kind of rampant mismanagement at every level? And with the collapse of parastatal institutions comes the loss of so many jobs and the redirecting of state resources to bail them out - resources that should and could have been directed at improving the lives of those in desperate need of help. Those that once upon a time, believed in the promise of a better life for all. And when that bubble pops the country goes up in flames. And therein lies the consequences of cadre deployment and political interference. It makes us all the poorer. We get the leadership we tolerate so those of us who sit on the sidelines and bitch and moan about the situation are not so blameless after all. It's what we tolerate.
