DigiChat with Andrea: Digital marketing skills, talent and training
Great article and I agree with most of it. I have found there is a serious lack of knowledge in my field, web analytics and online audience measurement. Far too many assumptions about how things actually work and are measured. Also lack of an understanding of global standards for measurement. I'm doing my best in conjunction with Jarred & the IAB to help improve this area.

SABC shows ANC colours in run-up to elections
I Agree with Bonke above me with regard to bias. DA has been attacking ANC for years, I'm not saying DA should stop attacking the ANC but, in terms of the Advertising Laws of this country, you're not allowed to, as subliminal as the DA tries to make it.

You write "If you vaguely circumscribe criticism of political leaders and the capacity of one party to take on another, you are going to have a very dry election debate" what you seem to be confused about in this case is the fact that an advertisment is NOT a debate, but a one-sided message from only one organisation. In a debate, they would have been free to "criticise" each other as you say.
Youy've tied together issues that don't belojng together to prove your point, which might lead the non-vigilant reader to be mislead

SABC shows ANC colours in run-up to elections
This article is biased, I do understand the logic, but it is blatantly clear that the author favours the DA, due to subjectivity of the article. SA has never been better, during the apartheid media broadcast was even worse including the SABC, was also a government parastatal used to spread false information and lies whilst the reality of things in SA were never exposed. now that white supremacy is a thing of the past, you will start hearing these weak debates or articles. get your facts right and come up with a better article which is not biased and subjective, because a reader i will make my mind up on every thing i read, watch or hear on radio, which is the reason why people voted Zuma even after the arms deal case and many more, you cannot fool the people with aggressive advertising. EFF has the very same advert and they are going nowhere slowly like the DA

Five social media tips to maximise your brand's online presence
Point number 5: "FNB's @Rbjacobs is one example of a brand that's seen huge growth, thanks to their empathetic and efficient engagement." ...not anymore. Shows how quickly things can change if not managed correctly. The last thing he has come across as is empathetic.

Websites are shrinking
I think the whole idea of less is more relates more on the design aspect of the website or whatever you are designing. In our latest web trends we see this more on design instead of content. And this has been misunderstood to bring content down than design. What's the point of a site if there's not going to be information on it? A website is like a 24hour representative of a business, company product or individual and so forth. If you have no info on it, rather safe your monthly hosting money and bring it down and give up your domain name to those who need it better. Being bold or cheecky like that will bring the brand of the business down.

Retailers must institute protection against cybercrime
I agree that retailers need to provide security. It's easier said than done though. With all the hacking that's been going on it could become rather difficult.

Coca-Cola creates rainbows to celebrate
When the Coca Cola company stops blowing its own trumpet it should take a closer look at what it is doing to the visual aesthetics of our country..... Our platteland towns are being ruined by up to 8 large Coca Cola signage on one small building - entire buildings are being painted in bright red - ugly billboards erupt like angry pimples in verdant fields along our roadways.
They are also jeopardizing the nation's health by producing diet drinks containing aspartame without informing the public of the serious concerns about the effects of this chemical additive.
This large powerful company should take a serious look at the real results and effects it is having on our lives and re-think their advertising and product content.

SABC shows ANC colours in run-up to elections
The News on SABC TV is a joke ..... Since the election campaign started all we get is speeches by the ANC delegates, especially Mr Zuma. What about all the other parties? This flies in the face of objective reporting!

Five social media tips to maximise your brand's online presence
Hey Gareth,
I have and interesting stat for your thoughts on Pinterest being purely female and recreational.."This year Pinterest drove 41 percent of social media traffic to e-commerce sites, while the average shopper referred from the network spent between $140 to $180 as compared to $60 to $80 spent by users referred from Facebook."
I guess females shop for recreation.. making them and Pinterest pretty alluring for brands right now ;)

Five social media tips to maximise your brand's online presence
Hi John, here are some fun facts from my research...
THE FASTEST GROWING DEMOGRAPHIC ON TWITTER IS THE 55-64 YEAR AGE BRACKET.
This demographic has grown 79% since 2012.
Impressive numbers for those who thought social media was a teen thing ;)

Roads death toll similar to previous years
Until all national roads are 2 lanes wide, with additional 'verge', with space between opposite directions, then nothing will change the amount of road deaths.

Five social media tips to maximise your brand's online presence
From my limited personal involvement I am amazed that Twitter is used more by older people than younger. This flies in the face of all my own experience which supports the view that whilst the older part of our society uses Facebook they purport not to even understand Twitter let alone use it

Websites are shrinking
A one-page website is a complete waste of time and space. Before i contact any company i will visit their website to gain background information. Any website containing none/little information creates a bad first impression, and you know what they say about first impressions

Websites are shrinking
Great artitle. Those companies who just put an email address and logo on their website and what about the individual who has no idea what are their services. I although they well known but they don't get more clients as will be if some content were on they site, some poeple go to the site for infomation/services they offer. SEO is pointless to then if used it for those who search for information/services offer.
