[Death to PowerPoint!] Part 3: Creative replacements for slides
Excellent stuff. It can be intimidating to break the habit as well as the expectation of your audience "but whhhhhherrre are the slides??? Did you prepare???" Slides comfort the (management) audience, as much as the speaker, in my experience.

Do we measure up?
The reality is that the Barcelona Principles are having an impact, but it takes years to change an culture that has been dominated by old ways of thinking. Just ask Martin Luther.. or for that matter advertising. AVEs began as a way of comparing PR to advetising, but that was when PR was a simpler discline and Advertising was pretty much something you paid for that appeared in print or on TV. Neither discipline bears much resemblance to what the were 50 years ago. What I see is that number of clients who are shifting away from AVEs and clip counts grows every year. According to the most recent USC Annenberg survey the number one metric used to measure PR is influence on reputation. The number one complaint from CEOs and clients that I hear is that agencies inflate impressions counts to the point that they are absurd, and I talk to dozens of people every month that are defining their success in terms of actual desired outcomes and not AVEs.
There is no time and place for AVEs and other silly anachronisms of our distant past. In an era when social conversations can bring down CEOs in a matter of hours, getting "impressions" or column inches -- which is all that AVE really measures, is not the objective. You can get all the impression or column inches you want by saying something stupid in a Tweet. What really matters is, does it affect your customers, your stock price and your relatoinshpis with your stakeholders.

QR codes bring email, mobile coupons to life
QR codes have had a slow start in South Africa, but that doesn’t mean that they should be forgotten. I think they still have the potential to be big; we just need to educate people about them more. In my opinion, they can be great when added to marketing campaigns. There are many QR code companies that are focused on quality QR code systems for their clients such as, qrcode.co.za and scanlife.com. QR codes can still be very popular in South Africa.

How much is an idea worth?
Spot on Chris. A creative I worked with used to say
if you have an idea in the client briefing meeting, keep quiet and bring it back two weeks later when it'll be seen to have value.

SABC News to scrap bulletins in Afrikaans, vernacular languages?
You're sensationalising by confusing SABC News on free-to-air public broadcast channels with SABC News, the 24-hour satellite news channel on DStv. If you said they were removing Afrikaans news from SABC2, or other languages from SABC1 and SABC3, that would be news. This is just link baiting. I'm surprised they even have anything other than English on the DStv channel, since DStv services more than just South Africa.

Yes, I try to live with my means but sometimes I spend more than earn. As usual my credit card is empty, so when I saw coat from my dream my pockets were empty. My decision was to get payday loan.
