Brilliant for young entrepeneurs and I am definately keen to hear more. South Africans need a kick up the hoo haa to realise that we have what it takes to be entrepeneurs. We speak 2 or more languages and communication is one of the biggest assets to being an entrepeneuer (or so I'm told by successful entrepeneurs).

One negative aspect of starting up a business in SA is that if you as an employer you are bound too heavily with labour laws, taxes, and the fear that if you dont make it on your own finding another job will become adifficult task. Especially if you are a white male (the MOST discriminated person in the country) The government and unions have squashed the free spirit of entrepreneurship in this country.

Just a quick reply on the comment about the SA government being responsible for the decrease in entrepreneurial spirit in this country. What Hog-Wash! One of the key assumptions about business, regardless of where you choose to enter into it, is that you have to take the environmental factors into account - and adjust your strategy accordingly! We all know this, yet why do we moan when we have to do it? Maybe we should stop highlighting the elements and start focusing on how to manage them?

Take the example of the south african labour law...how many new jobs have been created directly because of it? Human resource profesionals are in high demand! Concilliation and mediation are no longer fancy words in management text-books but are principles being PRACTICED. This is the true essence of business - see an opportunity, analyse it and act on it.

Easy to quote stats. Remember : "lies, damn lies and statistics"? Give us references to the research to support the 60% and 96% stats quoted. Don't sell training figures that have been grabbed from the air
