Trend  by  anon
This seems to be the trend at the so called "universities of technology" I attended one in Gauteng when it was still classified as a Technikon. I can only rely on the fact that this instution was a very reputable to try pursuade my employers that I have a solid qualification/education. I think what you are trying to do is admirable but even after being an alumni member of my previous instution for a while now I have given up hope. I would suggest you find yourself a nice university to go to where you pay more but at least you will be less frustrated.

COMMENT ON CPUT  by  Judy Olivier
With reference to article on bizcommunity.com regarding CPUT. My daughter is a student at CPUT Cape Town Campus, studying Somotology.

She is very satisfied with the standard of education, her lecturers and general staff members working in this department. The Somotology Department is in the Sciences Department and I drop her off at CPUT every morning and I must say the section were she attends classes is very clean, garden beautifully kept and students well behaved.

I would like to add that all the students attending CPUT are young adults and they should be responsible enough to ensure that they keep there campus clean and not expect the staff members' and lecturers to take action against them littering and been unhygienic. You as a student of CPUT and other students that feel the way you do should ensure that your campus is kept clean and tidy and if you see students that do not ad hear to every day hygiene and respect for others and your campus then you should approach them and inform them that they are wrong.

Also I would like to add that you should mention the campus that you are dissatisfied with and not make the whole of CPUT look bad.

You are missing the point
The main gripe was the lack of professionalism shown by lecturers and administrators. The litter bit was just a throw away line (i think)but nevertheless a valid one. Your daughter obviously attends a different campus

CPUT Cape Town  by  Judy Olivier
My daughter is then probaly one of the very lucky students that have lecturers that are dedicated. On the other hand my son attends Cape Town College in Thornton which leaves much to be desired, the lecturers are never in class and when some of them are they cannot be called lecturers.

My point is be more specific about which campus because the whole of CPUT Cape Town Campus is not bad.

Also maybe you should approach The Educational Department regarding the standard of Education.

not as bad  by  dropout by choice
My friend,
Try attending a certain well publicized and "elite" film school in this country (mainly refering to said institutes cape town "campus", where one can expect to pay a good R40 000 a year to study on a construction site (if the lecturers pitch up that is)

As an international student  by  Avestruz
Life at CPUT is as hard as it is for international students if not more. We don't have a very good reputation cos we are seen as aliens. The marks that are allocated to us is sometimes bias, when trying to claim, we are illtreated, i don't know if all departments are the same but i must say that i had to adapt even when we try to make friend, there's already a misperception among locals. Again, i must agree with you about lecturers being sometimes disrespectful and obnoxious. i just hope that misperception will change over the years cos it really hamper our experience as a student at CPUT. I can definitely recommand CPUT to my friends but it won't be without some critics to prepare them to the worst.

I agree wholeheartedly  by  Andy
One of the first thing I noticed about the cput, is that they have NO organizing skills. No personel can inform any student about changes occuring (which is constantly happening), and the total lack understanding with which they tell the students this is truly upsetting. There is no structured plan in black and white, I can't be told what my subjects will be in the next semester!

To be cont...

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Melanie
I agree with you, but why not do something about it! It takes one person to make a difference. As a student representative of your campus why not take that step (of making a change)and set an example instead of posting your complaints on the internet.

Please come and see me to discuss what we can do about it.

I strongly believe this is an important medium to voice dissatisfaction.

Well done Melanie for your courage to take this public. It is about time...

CPUT - Tygerberg/Bellville Campus
I agree on what was commented on this site - I'm a paying parent and not happy the way things are done or procedures that are followed - today I tried to contact the finance department via phone and was cut off 6 times before one person answered also did I not only get put on hold for 20 min with the "surprise" to be cut off once again. You call this a University of Technology what a joke I don't think you understand the term technology - if the house is not in order you can have state of the art equipment but still need competent people to do the job.

CPUT=Kaput?
Which of the many campuses are you on, Melanie? You don't say.CPUT is not generally known as Kaput. Upon what research do you base this statement? Do you know that "caput" is Greek for "head" meaning "brain"?

Re: CPUT=Kaput?  by  KAPUT Student
Some of the Afrikaan students refer to the term KAPUT. The afrikaans abbreviation for our University name is KPUT and is pronounced KAPUT... I would also like to know on which campus you study Melanie, im at the Wellington campus, and can agree with you on almost everything!
