Comments on Why are SA companies so eager to sponsor sport?

Hi Fish
Companies need exposure and the best way to get that sought after exposure is by sponsoring sporting teams and having the company name flying high. It's a matter of making money.

Hi Fish and CJ
Yes, it's all about making money, it's business. However, business also has a social responsibility to the people that support them. i.e. members of the community. There are companies that are very socially responsible, Afrox is one of them and has a great programme that has received international recognition. More companies should follow suit.

Free Ads  by  blobby
No corporation gives money away to sponsorship they do it for exposure call it marketing, The social responsibility is only for the eyeblind and to push Afrox like this is unjust the same as Coca Cola Or shall i say ABI only gives so little to keep the poor old poor communities happy. Normally they give Coke only 2-3 bottles and some Promo stuff like Caps T-shits etc to even market themselves at the poorest of the poor.

Nothing for free  by  Cuzz
That’s true.
The is nothing for free. Come to think of it the is nothing like social responsibility. Companies are the to look after their needs and nothing more. They don’t care about the needs of the poor. All they want its a bigger market share and money in their accounts. Hence whenever the is some so-called social responsible programme they invite all the media to cover it. Making sure everyone knows about it. If they cared they would have given what ever they wanted to give to the poor and the needy silently without going public about it, so sport gives them publicity and they end up being seen as supporting their country.

Companies are made up of people  by  Wesley
I agree with all of the comments so far in one way or another, however, just remember that a COMPANY is not a sentient being - you DO get companies, or rather, GM's, CEO's etc. of companies giving back to the community quietly - the problem with doing it that way is a bit of a catch-22 situation...if Companies ARE doing it that way, then who'd really know about it? I say that you drop a line to the media, even after the event, and just let them know that Company X IS dedicated to our nation as a whole - if it ends up in print etc. BONUS - fact is, you should do it, no matter what your reasons were. People don't suddenly NOT benefit out of your donation if you decide that you want to make a hype about it - they STILL benefit out of it, and what's more, they wouldn't begrudge you for wanting the recognition - we ALL want recognition for what we do as individuals, and Companies are made up of...individuals...
