I watched the show live on SABC on Friday evening and I think it's great that we acknowledge and recognise the pool of talent we have in South Africa and all the nominees were commendable.
Unfortunately, the award ceremony itself lacked a certain level of sophistication. The presenters weren't sure who should be revealing the winner or who hands over the award, the one guy forgot his mic and there was an awkward silence for a few seconds while he ran backstage to get a mic, the jokes/ humour was a bit lame and Miss SA was not a good performer especially since she announced the big winner.
Maybe they needed a few more rehearsal sessions for a slicker show.
I am one of the organisers of the Mzansi Awards and was very interested to read your opinion on the event. You made a few clever observations that indicate to me that you know the industry. Please let me know how to contact you outside this forum as I would like to challenge and engage you on some of your opinions.
It was embarassing to watch, from Nhlahla's dress to Loyiso not being on stage and that guy that kept on commenting from back stage it was an embarasment, and it took 2 years to put together, 2 years down the drain. I have never seen such. Hopefully they will do better next year.
I also watched the awards on telly and was a bit disappointed at the final execution. For starters, there were a lot of empty sits, that doesn't look good on TV. The perfomers were quite good, but there was no synergy, consistency and follow through with the presenters, some of them came out as if there were seeing the autocue for the first time, that is if there was one. A good briefing would have made the show a lot more slicker.
All said and done, well done to all the nominees and the winners! We definitely need to keep on making a big deal of the massive talent we have in Mzansi.
This should definitely qualify as one of the annual shows to pencil in and look foward to in calendars to come.
It a great initiative. But the ceremony was a dissaster. What are awards without choriography ? and when DJ Cleo was perfoming what was up with that fashion show..whos show was it by the way does anybody know ? The lighting was wachk...the moment of silence for Callie shouldn't have been so long. And who the hell removed the mic for the Boss on stage. And why was the audience seats so empty ? again tot he audiance why were they so dead.....Nex tym please dont use Joan to host anything she is doom. Bad Boy tried but miss joan kept distracting him with the clapping of hands...
Lets hope for the best nex year...!! and damn that fashion comantator ? what was he doing there in the first place ?
I can't even begin to explain just how painful it was to watch Stars of Mzansi! I know it was the first one, but I would've thought they would want to come out with a bang but alas it was a complete anticlimax! Who was that guy that kept popping up on our screens in-between Nonhle's inserts - weird. I don't even want to talk about the fashion, the non-stop applause or the acceptance speeches! Everyone looked soooo bored!
If we are going to imitate international awards let's do it properly.
OHH NO, I THINK PROPER PLANNING IS ESSENTIAL ESPECIALLY WHEN ORGANISING A BIG EVENT LIKE THIS,SOME OF THE JOKES WERE NOT EVEN HUMOUROUS, AND THE ATTIRE, I EXPECTED SOMETHING ELSE BUT WHAT I SAW, WAS LIKE MATRIC STUDENTS GOING FOR THEIR MATRIC DANCE K.B GIRL YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THAT, OOOH NO AND THE STUDIO SET WAS NOT UP TO STANDARD, AND THE LIGHTING AS WELL, EISH NEXT TIME, PREPARE THOUROUGLY, BUT I MUST SAY BIG UP TO THE LADY PRESENTER GIRL YOU ROCKED EISH AS FOR THE MALE CO-PRESENTER, I THINK PRESENTING IS REALLY NOT FOR HIM, TRY SOCCER!
i think everyone of has a right to voice his/her opinionas we are in a democratic sa i personally think mzansis where good and everything went in very well besides that, this is just a baby so we must not expect the std of mtv or what no .... please give orgnzs a change and 4 a change lets be surppotive to one another and stop being critical....

There's definately room for improvement.
