Where you ever an intern at anyone of these places you applied to or any place for that matter ? surely someone can give you a reference to get a foot [or toe for that matter] in the door.

It's great that you've got a qualification. What you need now is experience. Offer to work for next to nothing (just expenses)for six months/ a year for a reputable company to gain experience - regard it as the fourth year of your course -only you don't have to pay the college.
Work your butt off. Network. Make contacts. You'll see, you'll just slip into a paying job.

I know fully what its like, I have a diploma in public relations and am currently studying events management part-time and had sent my cv to just about every events company in cpt and no1 has had a opening for me and I am preapred to start at the bottom and work myself up because I believe once you in you can only grow to your full potential,and despite having no luck I am still trying and remaining positive. I agree! I'm also a travel and tourism management graduate that can't find a job. If you don't have experience, they don't hire you but where do you get experience if nobody wants to hire you ????????

I am by no means an expert on this matter but:
There are various avenues to get experience, learnerships for example, .... there are millions of those flying around. Get in touch with the funding SETA, get a list of employers and start there... approach them individually and do your homework, present yourself to the right person and charm them senseless... they can alwayz make special concessions for a person who has a keen understanding of their company and wants to grow with them... youll be surprised what thorough homework does for you

Listen guys, experience is necessary. Would you like to get treated by a first year med student when you can go to a qualified doctor? Having said that,experience is about commitment and not necessarily in the same field.There is various ways to kill a cat. i will attempt to give a couple:
1. there are numerous NGOs that are understaffed due to lack of funding, start there.. it demonstrates your will to gain experience and to grow your community
2. The buzz word- network. this is at all levels people, not just the Patrice Motsepe's. build a network of reliable people you went to college with who are working or sorts and have them keep their ears to the ground for you. get introduced to the top people if opportunity avails itself
3. Make your intentions clear. people invest in people who believe in themselves. This is an advantage, milk it dry.... Tell anyone who is interested about your plans and where you see yourself in a couple of years time... sell yourself hard. Dont overstep the mark though, all things should be done contextually...

I am studying tourism - I have just about experieced every department there is in the tourism industry except tour operations. It is really frustrating that one of the biggest subjects in tourism is EVENT MANAGEMENT. YES we understand that experience is essential BUT how will we ever get the jobs we really want/need if no will will grant us the opportunity to learn?? Every job is that way - you have to train every person you employ - whether they know the procedures well or not. We studied this field for a reason - we are passionate about it - give us all a fair chance - we may bring you more than just good business but a log term investmant as well!
