That is dusgusting behaviour from a Recruitment Consultant. Obviously they have no "tact", Danny do a search on Biz Community & submit your Cv to agencies that specialize in your line of work - they are more professional.
There are definately some agencies out there who dont have a clue what they are doing and the type of person required for the specific job. They get a brief from thier client and try and fill the position as quickly as they can... without actually knowing what that job entails or requires. On the other hand there are some agencies out there, alot of them utilise BIZCOMMUNITY.com such as AD talent and Creative Planet who specialise in the design/advertising industry and are better equipped in placing staff in the industry.... I should know, I just landed a fantastic position through creative planet via this site...
recruitment agencies must seriously get their acts together! Personally I avoid them - every single job I've got in media and advertising has been through sending my CV direct to the employer. Recruitment agents are second only to estate agents in terms of being annoying!
Lets face it- recruitment agencies are up there with used car salesman and tow truck drivers. They are also a necessary evil though. You need to find a reputable agency that has the applicants needs as their first priority and their clients as second- they do exist- you just need to look a bit harder.
I'd like to find a recruitment agency that puts job seekers interests first - it's the clients that's paying them, not us, those who are looking for work. I took a look at careerjunction and was amazed to see that there are over 750 recruitment agencies noted on that site alone! so it must be a free for all market. I also took a look at some of their websites and they pretty much say the same thing...." specialist dynamic, know clients needs and people.....been in the business a long time,,,,,, all that sort of nonsense..... so unlike estate agencies, it does not seem as if there is a recognised recruitment agency regulator...Perhaps if these agencies changed thier business model and got paid by the job hunter, you might get a better deal?
A whole new problem would exist if agencies were paid by jobseekers. Already there are some dogy ones that DO charge a fee - normal disguised as an 'admin' fee or such - even though it is illegal. These guys don't even ever need to employ anyone. All they need to do is charge the admin fee at 20 or 30 bucks and 'interview' 20 people a day to make a monthly turn over of R13000...times say ten consultants....R130k a month...still wonder why there are 750 agencies listed?
