Good point about linking to other associated sites
Many PR professionals and marketers are hesitant to offer journalists any other content that may take the shine off their brands or campaigns. But the truth is that the journalist needs to create a balanced view anyway and they are (mostly) going to look for alternative sources of information, which may support or conflict with the original media release.
If you are able to provide the journalist with other sources of information upfront, you'll help them get what they need - the first step in building a good relationship.Posted on 11 Apr 2008 12:53
Great initiative
I would like to see a SMPR about the cricket, rather than itself, but there are a lot of great initiatives there. I just wonder, is it still a press release? It doesn't matter really, because the press matter less than they used to.

One thing I would like to see incorporated is users being able to sign up as Kaboom bloggers. A lot of sports fans rate themselves as sports analysts/commentators - I reckon letting fans blog about the games themselves (and perhaps having a 'Featured posts' page for the best would be pretty cool.Posted on 11 Apr 2008 13:28

Who did the design?
Great initiative but design is lacking, especially for a brand like SB. Just look at the footer. In fact, the whole thing looks messy. Pity.Posted on 11 Apr 2008 13:52

Design
@Anon - thanks for the feedback. The design is in line with the Pro20 site (www.standardbankpro20.co.za), so we had little leeway here.

Thanks for pointing out the alignment issue in the footer. It'll be fixed shortly.Posted on 11 Apr 2008 14:15

Design
I agree with the comment above - the design needs some work especially considering that you're building such a high profile for being the first SM press release in South Africa.

Speaking as a designer – I always take elements from a particular campaign and ‘mould’ it to suit the job or medium I work with. What works for print doesn’t always work for online and vice versa.

At the end of the day the design must act as a visual cue and the logo will be the only element you cant compromise.Posted on 15 Apr 2008 13:36
