its early stages - What do you think of the new international marketing logo for South Africa? [Poll]
well the concept of a single minded marketing campaign overseas is good, but for 18 months of work that is not up to international standards. but let us give it time and see what good it doesPosted on 8 Nov 2009 11:52

Ambitious - New international marketing logo for South Africa
It would be foolish to think that it's possible to capture the essence of an entire country in a single mark. Our flag comes closest. In the context of marketing South Africa overseas, it makes perfect sense because it already carries familiarity. I don't agree with the way it was applied to the logo, but I do think it was a safe choice.Posted on 8 Nov 2009 01:28

Wish List - Annual Christmas Wish launches
My wish list is for the woman who gave life to me, my dearest mother.
My mother is the kind of person who always gives and that’s why it’s time that her three daughters feel that it’s time to give back to her.

My mother and my young sister are both in East London. My eldest sister and I have both started are own families in Johannesburg. My mum has had a life time of life’s struggles and cancer. She faced the battle of cancer. Even though she underwent an operation and chemotherapy, she still nursed the other patients in hospital. Nursing has been her lifetime career. A career that has always suited her in every way. She has the caring & patient nature which people are only drawn to. We lost our dad and my mum’s only love 3 years ago.

We are so grateful to my mum for caring for my dad in his last days. She would walk from home to the hospital 3 times a day. You see my mum’s home town is Cape Town and therefore doesn’t have much family in East London. My dad was the one who always drove my mum around. She slept on the cold tiled floor, to lay next to my dad in hospital. My mum ensured that she gave my dad the best funeral he deserved even though she lives on a measly income.

My mum is turning 60 next year. We wanted to honour her with a huge birthday party. Her wish however is for us to rather buy her a car, as my mum and sister are only reliant on their legs or a taxi to get anywhere.

My wish list for my mum is a car and for endless driving lessons to ensure my 20 year old sister gets a license to drive my mum around. We so much want to give my mum a 60th birthday party she will not forget, just can’t afford the car as well.

My mum’s motivation is her love for God, she walks to the hospital and blesses the sick with her prayers. Always forgetting her own circumstances and putting herself second. She is always giving and we only wish that she will be rewarded for all she has done for others.

What was broken? - New international marketing logo for South Africa
I would firstly ask the question: " What was broken that needed to be fixed with this supposed logo?" (reminds me a bit of a certain company who went from "simpler, better, faster" to "inspired, motivated, involved" to "moving forward" and absolutely nothing about their service offering or the way they do business has changed).

Secondly, a logo is a single symbol that encapsulates, embodies and tries to convey something about the company or organisation that it represents. I fail to see the embodiment of anything in this "symbol".Posted on 7 Nov 2009 22:01

Sbongile I understand that Listeners will never be happy. Especially us (those commenting in this platform) however, that will never justify you not taking lack of talent off the mic. Its about time someone tell it like it is: AlphyK is not a good soccer commentator, but he is a brilliant sports presenter if not the best. The point I am making is Mokaragana should be done by AlphyK. Take Brian out of that slot, let OATILE AND MANYAAPELO DEAL WITH SOCCER COMMENTARY.

Last question: Sbongile do you really listen to LESEGO LEKGETHO AND FREDDAH TLHAPANE? THESE ARE VERY BRAVE GIRLS!Posted on 7 Nov 2009 08:27

No impact whatsoever - New international marketing logo for South Africa
I won't go into profanity like some others, but Feel this "logo" conveys very little other than the name south africa. Is there a set of principles it's trying to convey? Some kind of meaning? Maybe the flag has been transformed into an arrow or something?

For some who didn't understand, this is not the new country flag, get with it. It's a logo to be used on marketing materials for market our country as a Brand.

I think it lacks dimension, personality and thought. Is this supposed to tell the rest of the world how dynamic and interesting South Africa is? I don't think it does that. Very Bland, dead, almost seems like an extremely old banner ad or something.

Maybe the creators and approvers can bring us their justification. This has got nothing to do with whether or not you're proudly SA, it's just about being able to spot poor design from a mile off.Posted on 6 Nov 2009 23:22
Doug Davenport is a Fraud!!! - Evolver-lutionary times
Doug Davenport, real name Dale Davenport, 620 The Plaza, River Vale NJ is a total fraud. He escaped to South Africa with his mother because he is a wanted man by the US courts for nonpayment of child and spousal support. Now his wife and two children are homeless and their home is in foreclosure. Today is his son's 19th birthday and there is not a word from the "devoted dad." He cheated on his wife with a single mother for a while in the US until she too realized that he is a fraud. There are no music promotion skills. Evolver should do an intensive background check and they will quickly realize that Davenport is nothing more than an opportunist who wants to make a killing and run with the money. Be forewarned. A TOTAL FRAUD!!!Posted on 6 Nov 2009 23:17

This guy is a total fraud!!! - New York promoter signs with local rock act Evolver
Doug Davenport, real name Dale Davenport, 620 The Plaza, River Vale NJ, USA has left the US with his mother because he does not want to be prosecuted because of non payment of child and spousal support. The court told him to pay, he did not. Now his wife and two children are left homeless and their home is in foreclosure. He keeps promising his wife that he will send money, but it is not happening. Today is his son's 19th birthday and there is not a word from the "devoted dad." He is a failed mortgage company employee and does not have any skills, especially promoting skills. He cheated on his wife with a single mother, 20 years his junior and she finally saw the light and dumped him. Once again, there are no promotion skills here. He is a compulsive liar and a sociopath. Evolver should look very hard at this person who states that he is someone that he is not.Posted on 6 Nov 2009 23:05

The logo changed, but the concept remains the same. - New international marketing logo for South Africa
The logo attached to this article changed since it was first published, I suspected that was going to happen. The previous version had the "South Africa" type on two lines, and the ratio was off (the height was stretched). However the concept (or lack thereof) remains unchanged. I do like the choice of typeface and the white on black is very striking and will apply to all mediums well, but the use of the flag looks like a last resort at an unsuccessful attempt in trying to integrate the flag into a logo. It really lacks balance.

But, I have a strong feeling that this logo will appeal more to an international audience who aren't as familiar with our flag as we are, and that is its purpose after all. In which case it's a winner.Posted on 6 Nov 2009 22:55

It really lacks direction ... - What do you think of the new international marketing logo for South Africa? [Poll]
Sadly, by simply plakking a multicoloured flag with a forward "directional" arrow and a multimillion buck campaign won't bring success. And why right-facing; it seems PC motivated. (Or is it meant to be). A "lift-off" slant would have given this hapless thingy lots more vooma. Anyway, is it not high time that we stop meddling with our flag and start to appoint seriously credible designers; maybe someone with flair and some strategic input.Posted on 6 Nov 2009 21:09

Comment - New Motsweding FM lineup released
Guys any justification of why Brian was moved to Sports? I thought even though he's not that kinda of someone who can rock the airwaves during the late hours of friday and Sunday, at least he was getting there. The lack of vavavooom in him cannot be ignored though. This Thlapane chick is not the material for that slot honeslty...it's not like am suffering from PHD but truth has to be told sometimes cos sugarcoating endorses mediocrity. The same goes to Lesego and Mantsho. As for Thapelo and Queen I think they're still young an anyway I fall outside of their Target Audience Bracket fo goodness sake..So I will give them a benefit of doubt though...Myb it's a strategic move to lure young and fresh listners to the airwaves...Who knows and cares anyway?

I mean the whole incompetent and untalented lot (I mean on radio, not generally) should be relegated to production team or something that will keep them away from the mic. I guess everyone knows that injustice (at least in theory) in South Africa warrants prosecution. So at least to save their jobs, they could make better producers with the broadcasting knowldege and experience they gained. Moreover truth has to be told I'm no a fan of Lebo and honestly I don't see myself falling into her on radio as long as she does not instill sense of respect, tolerance, humanity and professionalism in her. Just to make myself clear, for instance when listeners call, she cuts the listeners before they could finish to say their points, opinions or comments...That's unprofessional to say the least and shows lack of respect....Another is of cutting listners that call while their radios are still on when going on air...I mean understandably in this case listners mess up big time but can't this lady give them at least few secs to switch off their radios and comment on topic on hand?? Is that hard to do? Absolutely no. And lastly you guys (djs) stop talking about your achievements on radio as a way of making some listeners to loose hope in life. I mean you can't say that am driving this, eating this, living in a plush house, drinking this and so forth while the person who's listneing to you is stuggling to put her/his life together. Remember that radio reaches millions of listners and of that millions probably only a quarter of them are living decent lives. So guys when you open your mouths try to think about those things. AmenPosted on 6 Nov 2009 19:18

SOAPIES....Give us a break - Soapies, sex and social responsibility
I understand tha the soapie genre is much appreciated in this day and age (by a predominantly black audience who seek some kind of escapism) I think Neil would be better positioned as a Doccie writer instead of wasting his obvious talent on a genre that is down right laughable...come on neil...you're a grown experienced man! The Documentary genre could do with your talent, experience and expertise...leave this soapie story already!!!!!Posted on 6 Nov 2009 18:50
