it has to do with, how the women has grown up using this pen (she's reflecting)and now she has "arrived" and is sucessful enough to stay at a Sun International Hotel... and how ironic that it show stop working...

I agree...
... I thought it was an ad for Parker Pens, as the pen is the only consistent image I noticed in the ad! And each time I see it I have forgotten who the advert is for and I get hung up on the damned pen again!!

It's like a lot of ads at the moment - what do they want me to know?
Your point is so right. There is a real lack of understanding about advertising out there. Consumers of advertising are not sitting at home trying to work out our ads, they are watching TV to tune out of life. So for goodness sakes, make the ad strong, interesting, arresting and tell me what you want me to know. I will act on it it or not. But I am not going to try and figure out the obscure 'clever' advertising that the industry seems to be producing of late.

It takes that long to get to southern sun  by  Nimrod
The woman and the pen have come a long way hence the pen has stopped working. The Ad is designed for poeple with a certain IQ level,so I understand why its hard to comprehend, and oooh it might take you a while for you to get my heading.
