Clover extends the magic to billboards
As well produced as the ad is, it is a complete rip of the Coca Cola Factory idea. By all means, steal the thinking of others and rework it to your brand, that's what advertising agencies and marketers are renowned for, but why enter it into awards knowing it's not even close to an original idea? Selecting digital online agencies
Great List Johanna. I would also add:

Thorough Usability understanding and experience across platforms and devices

Measurement (which I guess ties into your Analytics heading?) - Ability to analyze data to gain Insights to solve business problems with Digital being one of the most measurable mediums

Managing online reputational risks
The real fact is that social media and online reputation management are becoming permanent fixtures in a company's marketing and decision making strategies. Never before have we seen marketing & customer service company departments coming together for the common good of the customer. It has been a game changer. Posted on 8 May 2012 14:30

Jammer, Bob - I think this *IS* newsworthy.

And, as a brand consultant, YOU really should be able to see it for what it is as well.

The story is a great exemplar of the state of an entire sector of SA media. While there are some superb examples of success at community radio level, far too many of the operators in this arena are petty fiefdoms that are either plundered for personal gain (which seems to be one of the issues at play here) or stifled and restricted by one person's agenda (often a conservative religious ideology).

Community radio should be a raucous and robust marketplace of ideas that underpins a people's democracy, but it is hampered by a desperate need for capacity building for both management and on-air staff.

As a sector, you'll surely agree, it's brand identity IS this story. What's required is for thought leaders, knowledge holders and power brokers to stop dismissing these sad "facepalm" stories as tiresome trivia and to start seeing them as symptomatic of a fundamental challenge that our media faces.

Instead of sniping churlishly, perhaps making your expertise available in some small way, or at least interrogating the role that the organisations that should be advancing the sector are playing, might be a better use of your intellect and insight? Posted on 8 May 2012 14:03

Minister Ndebele - "a world leader in road safety" what a laugh. More than 40 people are killed on South Africa's roads every day. We have no road safety efforts, our law enforcers are corrupt, we have more than 1 million unlicensed drivers and countless unroadworthy vehicles. The Road Traffic Management Corporation have no budget ebcause fo fraud and corruption. Come on Minister Ndebele - it is your time to lead now!!! Posted on 8 May 2012 10:11

South Africans urged to travel their own country
I would love that, but e-toll, higher petrol charges and other taxing costs have made that an impossible dream. Its expensive enough to drive to work and back and just survive. Posted on 8 May 2012 09:09

South Africans urged to travel their own country
It will great if airlines, agents and hotel groups get on board to make it more affordable for South Africans to axplore and travel their own country.
Just going up to Table Mountain cost a fortune for me and my family of four.
Over all I think our accomodation rates are to high. Making it even for overseas tourist difficult to visit SA. You only have to look at Groupon to notice this arguement. You can stay oversees in a five star establishment for R4999 for five days, but then you pay R2999 for two nights in a four star establishment in SA. It doesn't make sense. I wish their was some regulation in the industry that states that if you are a three star establishment you are only allowed to ask between x - amount and the same for four- and five star establishments. Radio is losing its intelligence (part II)
Thanx Anthony for this. As an upcoming presenter who back in the days had a dream of becoming a presenter, because of listening to gous like Kenny Maistry, Back in the Mafutha Jam days at Metro FM, guys like Ernest Pillay, Bra Ben Dikobe and many others, I belive these guys did well, and some of them still in the industry. I want to play a part in bringing back that quality, that respect and that relationship a listener had with his/her radio station/presenter, where do I start? Posted on 7 May 2012 15:32

Planet Fitness to bulk up
It is very hard to read something that tries to portray De Wet as some kind of pillar of the business community and fitness world when he is the MD of a company who make millions from the deliberate fleecing of their members and ex-members.
Planet Fitness makes the majority of their money through immoral business practices. They entice you into contracts through deception and once locked into these contracts it is almost impossible to get out of them. They are currently threatening to blacklist me over an amount of 8k I supposedly owe them after my account was autorenewed without my knowledge and consent and the company proceeded to bill me for years without my knowledge and are now sending me the bill.
Whether or not this is technically legal it is clearly immoral.
Since it is impossible to reach Manny De Wet through the usual channels all I can do is post comments on blogs like this. Posted on 7 May 2012 09:35

Will radio comedy and drama as in those days ever make a comeback? Guess it's like asking if Drive Inn's and Road Houses will ever be popular again? If we call online entertainment today, will we ask the same question (will it ever make a comeback?) in 2070? Posted on 6 May 2012 20:07
