[Gisele Wertheim Aymes] Well, I'm back in Cannes. One year later and ready to learn some more. Just arrived and went straight to a session with one of Twitter's founders, Biz Stone (@biz). The Debussy Hall was packed wall-to-wall and floor-to-floor and the place was tweeting so much I was sure at one point I felt the room vibrating.

[Gisele Wertheim Aymes] Yesterday, Tuesday, 23 June 2009, confirmed that collaboration is key to communication success. Current market conditions and the growing influence of social media and participatory culture requires all of us – agencies, marketers, media houses/owners and the rest – to humble down and collaborate. Clients are also going to have to take the lead and look at new models of remuneration to encourage and reward a more collaborative approach to their business.

[Gisele Wertheim Aymes] The techies will continue to change our world. I’m more convinced of this than ever from my time here at Cannes.

[Gisele Wertheim Aymes] I was sad to leave Cannes yesterday, Thursday, 25 June 2009, because each year for a few days in my hectic life schedule I get to sit and listen and marvel at the amazing innovation that is shaping our advertising, media and communications.

[Louise Marsland: @Louise_Marsland] Did you hear the one about the agency that wouldn’t get out of bed for less than a R10 million account and is now offering services pro bono for up to a year in an attempt to steal clients from smaller agencies?

[Damon Stapleton] CANNES, FRANCE: As I finish judging 4000 entries at 2010 Cannes Lions, I really do feel advertising is at a crossroad. I have never seen at awards show where you can definitely see the past, present and future all at the same time.

[Damon Stapleton] CANNES, FRANCE: It's strange talking to the judges here. There really is a sense that nobody knows what's going to happen next. Advertising has become so all-encompassing, it’s really become hard to define. From a South African perspective, I believe we have about 12 months to take some quantum leaps.

[Damon Stapleton] CANNES, FRANCE: We are coming to the end of another Cannes. The big parties with small pieces of food. The champagne being consumed by ridiculously good-looking people. The sharks that are smiling at you but looking over your shoulder to see who is more important. And, of course, egos and insecurities that could destroy even the bravest fashion victim. These things are all true; however, there is another side.

[Cannes Lions Judges Blog] Here are some video blogs (vlogs) from four of the South African creatives judging Cannes Lions this year, ahead of their trip to Cannes, Frances, for the 58th Annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

[Cannes Lions Judges Blog] Chris Botha: My Cannes experience so far can be broken up into two categories – life and work. Life being these beautiful experiences that we are lucky enough to experience, and work being, well, the work. The real reason we’re actually here.

[Cannes Lions Judges Blog] Janet Kinghorn: Cannes itself has not changed since I was here last in 1999. Men and women still wander up and down Le Croisette in white linen suits and fancy dresses. But the difference this time is that design is really starting to become a big player here.

[Cannes Lions Judges Blog] Xolisa Dyeshana: Where do I start? My
Cannes experience was as much of an eye-opener as it was spectacular and inspiring. Being on the
Direct Lions jury was a privilege I will not be forgetting anytime soon.

[Cannes Lions Judges Blog] Brad Reilly: I wrote this as I sat on a train reflecting on the week I’d left behind, flanked by the splendorous azure of the Riviera to my left and the rundown graffiti clad residential blocks to my right. Bisecting these stark contradictions seemed a fitting ending to a week concentrated on doing just that, separating the good from the bad, with the difference not always as clear as one would assume, particularly when based on 21 opinions.
