The use of social media for learning, teaching and citizenship
[South African College of Business] On Day 3 at the eLearning Africa Conference, one presentation in particular stood out. It focused on the idea that if the Learner Management System was the online classroom then surely social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter could serve as the cafeteria?

[AdForum Worldwide Summit] Day one in the Big Apple
[Johanna McDowell] NEW YORK CITY: We ate a delicious dinner at the oldest (former) synagogue in New York, now an art gallery and event space - organised by Ogilvy, who had hosted us earlier that day for a presentation - as part of the 2012 AdForum Worldwide Summit.

[SxSW 2012] Part V: Brands as APIs
[trigger/isobar goes to SxSW] Uno de Waal: SxSW Interactive is primarily a conference attended by the tech-set. However, SXSW also sees a lot of people attending from the non-technical side, such as branding, strategy and marketing. Often the two overlap, and often we need different metaphors from different industries to explain things. The most interesting of these metaphors came from the brands as APIs, content publisher discussions and the way we measure ROI in social media talks.

[SxSW 2012] Part I: Preparation
[trigger/isobar goes to SxSW] Karin Botta: After months of planning, we’re finally here. A brief intro: South by Southwest (SxSW) or ‘South By’, as the cool kids call it, is probably the biggest and regarded as the best digital conference in the world. Held annually in Austin, it started out as a music festival – one of the first of the summer season, and has slowly grown into a conference and events festival across film, music and ‘interactive’.

[2011 FIPP Congress] Magazines: the medium of the future
[New Media FIPP Blog] Rose Cohen: Despite the drive towards digital media, worldwide research consistently demonstrates that magazines are still the medium consumers trust the most and are inspired by. Nicholas Coleridge, VP of Condé Nast International, UK made this message abundantly clear in his presentation to delegates on the second day of the 38th annual FIPP World Magazine Congress in New Delhi, India, this week.

[2011 FIPP Congress] Fresh from FIPP: Incredible India and ePublishing today
[New Media FIPP Blog] Rose Cohen: The first FIPP World Magazine Congress was held in Paris 38 years ago. Now, in 2011, it has made its way to India for the first time (or as Aroon Purie, chairman of FIPP, put it in his opening address: “It’s about time”).

Two hundred, young, bright minds in one place
[Abey Mokgwatsane] I was at the Mail & Guardian Top 200 South Africans launch last week. I was there because I was fortunate enough to make the list in this year’s business category. This, however, is not about me; it’s about the incredible people I met that day. I mean, what else could I ask for? Two hundred, young, bright minds in one place.
