We've all heard - and mocked - the various leadership team builds and lectures involving lion prides, wild dogs, bush babies, the nomadic tribes of Albania... Inspirational, but often low on content. I'm expecting high content value and high impact at the Discovery Invest Leadership Summit in Sandton today,Wednesday, 22 July 2009. First up is the ultimate surfer dude, Shaun Tomson, with 12 simple lessons for ‘riding through life', drawn from his experience as world surfing champ.
The theme of the Summit, which those of us lucky enough to still have training budgets left over or media people with good connections (and excellent begging skills) are attending, is all about business success and inspiring in times of global challenge.
On the bill after Tomson's opener is Discovery CEO Adrian Gore; UJ chancellor and businesswoman extraordinaire Wendy Luhabe; Internet Solutions founder Ronnie Apteker; and the one I'm most looking forward to and one of my favourite authors, trend opinion maker Malcolm Gladwell (The Tipping Point, Blink, ) and oh yes, Time magazine also named him one of the world's 100 most influential people. The heavyweights in the afternoon are Mathews Phosa, treasurer general of the ANC and the highlight of the day, the ebullient Sir Richard Branson, Virgin chair.
