[PR Russia Forum] Day one

13 Apr 2012 09:52:00
MOSCOW, RUSSIA: The Russian public relations industry has really only become established in the past 20 years; prior to that, it was politically impossible. As a result, it is still exploring many PR avenues that other countries passed through a while ago – including South Africa.

However, the Russians take their industry very seriously and I was pleased to see the calibre of delegate – all senior level – and the intensity of debate around the topic at the IV PRRussia Forum.

The theme of the conference is evaluating PR in relation to company profit. In other words, is PR worthwhile as a business tactic? Can you prove ROI? How do you measure PR practitioner performance – both in agency and in corporate?

My address at the opening of the conference yesterday, Thursday, 12 April 2012, was an overview of current trends and some future predictions and ideas around evaluation on a holistic level. It seemed to go well and I was being interpreted as I spoke.

Other speakers that day were local senior Russians, plus Paul Holmes of the Holmes Group (which runs the SABRE Awards).

Fascinating discussion and we can learn a lot from this debate – particularly the level of seriousness which is applied to the PR industry.

More next week!
