Two Grand Prix awards at Design/Direct/Print Loeries

In a loud and raucous Loerie Awards on Saturday night, 15 October 2005, Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in the Design, Direct and Print Advertising Categories were announced in Margate. All-in-all, a total of two Grand Prix awards, 17 Gold Loeries, 53 Silver Loeries and 102 Bronzes Loeries were awarded, with one Grand Prix going to a relatively unknown agency. Enough bling to light up the night sky...

[Louise Marsland] Glamour returned to the Loeries Sunday night with bling bling so bright one almost missed the industry stars - the award winning creatives in this, the Mnet-sponsored final night of The Loerie Awards, Margate 2005. From tiaras and sequins to huge chains and diaphanous creations, it was more of a case of 'pimp my date' than 'Pimp My Ride', as one goggle-eyed fireman on duty remarked on the 'less is more to see' fashions: "I think I'm going blind!" The creative circus comes to town

[Louise Marsland] You could have been forgiven for thinking someone spiked your drink or that you popped a dud, when inflatable beach toys began zooming around the Loeries tent on Saturday, as in keeping with the 'Loeries at the beach' theme, beach balls hung from the fairy-lit big top and inflatables bedecked the entrance. [Terry Levin] Apart from being a headline too precious to pass up, the crowds at this year's Loeries are divided as to whether the great rig on the beach here, that glows blue at night, could possibly be a portal for alien beings and clones. Where were the dancing girls?

[Louise Marsland] It was a low key start to The Loerie Awards weekend as the first planes to leave Jo'burg with visitors this morning, Friday 14 October, were met with grey skies and a muted welcome. The ad people didn't disappoint of course, obliging with the trendy bling bling, gelled hair and studied nonchalance that takes hours to perfect.
