Situated in Franschhoek, the Cathbert Country Inn has undergone a journey of transformation and is now known as Angala Boutique Hotel & Guest House (Angala).

Angala is inspired by a universal philosophy, which is the idea that all sentient beings can shape their own destiny, connecting to nature's stillness and life's energies; to feel that wonderful energy at Angala, to be inspired and to ponder on hopes and dreams with trust, and to be enriched by that experience.

Angala Boutique Hotel & Guest House is owned by husband and wife duo, Peter and Tisha Cunliffe, who surround themselves with the original staff since the inception of Cathbert Country Inn. The team continues to uphold the winning formula of CCI, namely the genuine commitment to guest services. Furthermore, owner Tisha Cunliffe explained: "And, for us, this means being consistently warm, genuine and focused on the guests so they feel important in ways that mean something to them."

The mission of Angala extends further than providing a peaceful retreat for its guests; sustainability is kept in line with Angala's philosophy and green options are strived for, including a state-of-the-art waste water-recycling plant. This sustainable operation system includes the use of borehole water, solar power, LED lighting and recycling in general. Hidden in Angala's enchanting garden is an eco-pool with a natural aqua plant filtering process resulting in pure, clean, nurturing and energy-healing water.

    Fish from the "Green List"

In alignment with the hotel's sustainable initiative, the restaurant serves produce from local suppliers as well as fish from the "Green List" of the Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI). With a restaurant, conference facilities, spa treatments available on request and a stunning setting for event functions.

South African chef Matthew Gordon has joined Angala's team as executive chef, offering exquisite gourmet cuisine. Angala welcomes non-residents to share this culinary experience.

Understanding the true value of providing service excellence, Angala is determined to build itself as a humble and genuine establishment. Following extensive refurbishments and upgrading of the property, Angala has taken the step to apply for a five-star rating this year. However, the owners are determined that the emphasis will be on offering an unpretentious home-away-from-home experience.
