The launch of the Artists of Africa Exhibition will be hosted by the City of Johannesburg at the Joburg Theatre, South Africa on Wednesday, 16 September 2009. The pan-African exhibition has been recognised as an official 2010 FIFA World Cup host city event for the City of Johannesburg.
Government officials, artists, curators, the media, stakeholders and supporters of the African contemporary arts industry are invited to attend.
Curators, writers and artists from the continent will collaborate at the exhibition. The curatorial team and some of the participating artists will be in attendance to unveil the curatorial concept and vision.
Curator, Melissa Mboweni added, “The general public will finally get a chance to view artwork which educates and edifies on various levels. In keeping the spirit of African art alive, the exhibition continues the dialogue of contemporary African art which often happens outside the continent.”
The exhibition will be open to the public at Museum Africa from 11 May - 11 July 2010.
The “Artists of Africa” will not only benefit the industry and our artists directly during the period of the tournament, but profiling our industry to such a large global audience is sure to provide us with benefits way beyond the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
