Malawians cry foul over e.tv and CNBC Africa blackout

24 Aug 2009 09:501 commentsBizLike
Thousands of Malawians who were able to access South Africa's e.tv and CNBC Africa television stations through the free-to-air digital satellite have cried foul over the blackout of the stations for three weeks now.
There has been no information or contact about why transmission of the two stations was lost.

One concerned viewer, a Lilongwe capital city resident Dan Eddie Nthara wrote to the editor of one of Malawi's dailies The Nation where he wanted fellow knowledgeable Malawians to explain to the other viewers what actually happened to the channels.

“The South African based e.tv was one of such channels which most Malawians liked viewing in the absence of the Multichoice subscribed decoders,” wrote Nthara.

The stations are currently beaming a ‘scramble channel' over a black screen, frustrating Malawian viewers who have been watching the two channels.

Malawians cry foul over e.tv and CNBC Africa blackout-
Someone finally broke the silence, why did it take so long. We in Namibia have been experiencing the same problem for weeks now. It’s really frustrating; you come home from work hopping to watch your favorite programs only to be greeted by a black screen. Can someone from E-TV please tell us what’s going on.
