    Design Indaba, shaping innovation, creativity

    Design Indaba, 27 February to 3 March 2013 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), is ready to shape thinking in a combination of design, innovation and creativity in the conference and expo as a one-stop design portal for the highly curated, bespoke multimedia content that is bread and butter to the global creative industries.

    This year, world-renowned and acclaimed Brazilian chef Alex Atala will celebrate the worldwide launch of his book on 28 February; the debut of the Petting Zoo app; El Burro's first food truck at the Expo and FilmFest movie premieres, many screening in Africa for the first time.

    Conference

    Designers, thinkers, entrepreneurs and academics from Sir John Hegarty to John Maeda, Daan Roosegaarde to Nicholas Hlobo, Marian Bantjes, Alex Atala and many more internationally renowned names are part of the conference speaker programme.

    In its continual pursuit to inspire and encourage younger generations in the creative sector, the Young Designer Simulcast presents the opportunity for aspiring creative enthusiasts to watch a live simulcast of the main plenary session in a second auditorium, with parallel sessions in Johannesburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth.

    Music

    In another first, a Music Circuit been introduced to the programme from 27 February to 1 March. "We love the idea of Capetonians taking ownership of their city, so for us it's about giving people as much access to all the delights of the city as we possibly can," comments Ravi Naidoo, Design Indaba founder and music enthusiast.

    It offers 32 acts, eight venues, three nights and one city ... catch the best of Hugh Masekela and Larry Willis, Spoek Mathambo and Friends, The Dollfins, Floyd Levine, Anthea Scholtz, Niskerone and 10SUI.

    Expo

    The Expo, from 1-3 March, will display the very best South African design products. Bespoke, curated and 100% local, it is all about creative distinction. Meet the Emerging Creatives, see the Innovation Award winners and view the Most Beautiful Objects in South Africa, as they compete for the number one spot.

    As the country's premier showcase of high-end, homegrown design, the Expo is also the only platform that welcomes advertising, craft, decor, fashion, product design, industrial design, new media, publishing, visual art, jewellery design and graphic design, all under one roof.

    Film

    Film also takes centre stage as one of the main players this year with the screening of FilmFest until 3 March. Many of the films are premiering for the first time in Africa and several like 'Please Subscribe' and 'The International Space Orchestra' are showing for the first time since their world premieres in the USA and Rotterdam respectively.
