Media&Money comes to CNBC Africa

19 Oct 2009 11:2411 commentsBizLike
CNBC Africa this week launches its Media&Money programme, focusing on the competitive and business side of Africa's media, marketing, advertising, branding and communications sector. The show will each week feature some of the most influential advertising leaders and branding professionals as guest hosts.
According to Jill de Villiers, CNBC Africa's head of programming, “Media&Money will tackle all of the topics that are relevant and important in the media and advertising industry at the moment. What makes this project exciting is that we are taking a creative approach to bringing this show to your TV screen. The team is looking at bringing movement, variety and something different to the traditional approach.”

Uncover and discuss

Each programme will feature some of the biggest names in marketing, advertising, media and branding - and aims to uncover and discuss the issues often hidden behind agency doors and to tell it as it is when it comes to the latest marketing campaigns.

Adds De Villiers, “Every week our two anchors, Mandlakazi Mpahlwa-Sigcawu and Jacqui Nel will talk to the who's who of the industry to bring viewers up to date with the latest thinking and creative efforts of industry gurus.”

Industry experts will include Gordon Patterson, Andy Rice, Giles Shepard, Jeremy Sampson and Harry Herber to name but a few.

“Long overdue”

Starcom MD Patterson, who will be one of the first guest hosts on Media&Money, says that a show such as Media&Money “is long overdue. Too often the role of business in media and marketing is understated. I am delighted to see CNBC Africa making marketing a business rather than a consumer conversation piece.”

Media&Money will be broadcast every Wednesday at 5.30pm on CNBC Africa, DStv channel 410.

CNBC Media&Money-
Yawn!! Same old same old - the panel of experts is SO TIRED. Surely there are younger, fresher faces in the industry. You should have searched harder CNBC. Posted on 19 Oct 2009 14:49

The Continent-
I hope that the "Industry Experts" will include experts from other countries on the continent as well not just the SA "experts"... Posted on 19 Oct 2009 15:44

I CAN HOOK CNBC AFRICA WITH EXPERTS IN NIGERIA,KENYA-
I love the idea behind the programme but cnbc africa has bureaux in Lagos,Abuja and Nairobi. These bureaux and even interviews from freelancers should contribute to the programme.
About the presenters ,we are tired of them and the media is being deregulated on the continent so the show could be presented from say,Kenya by Terry Chebet for instance or u cld get a freelancer from Abuja to actually anchor the show. The content of the show must not necessarily come from people who carry cnbc africa identity cards.Giles Achagga,Nairobi Posted on 14 Nov 2009 14:31
Why hasn't CNBC spoken to any of the real African experts?-
I see the same old suspects, none of who have worked outside South Africa or spend any real time in Africa. Talk to ZK Advertising, the only agency with offices in 10 African countries, doing work for Africa's
first own mobile services company, who have created real African advertising. Posted on 19 Oct 2009 16:49

Where are the real Marketing,Media ,Advertising gurus!?-
Why cant CNBC Africa do interviews with Jeff Koinange of K24 in Nairobi, and Salim Amin of A24 Media in Kenya,Biodun Shobanjo of the Troyka Group,Nigeria's biggest media group in Lagos ,Nigeria and Dayo Laniyi, the CEO of Doxa Digital,Nigeria's fastest growing eventing company in Abuja.John,Lagos Posted on 14 Nov 2009 14:46

Stop recycling old faces-
There is a very worrying trend with South African media, that of recycling old faces over and over again, from print right through to television. The day they stop focusing on only Johannesburg and Cape Town, then they'll be on something. If I'm not mistaken there is Boom Town in PE, a leading advertising agency that CNBC could feature as a start. Then move into the rest of the African continent for more inspiration, after all CNBC is African focused. Remember though Kenya and Nigeria are not the only countries on the continent... CNBC Africa's new show-
What a great initiative CNBC Africa, I must commend you on the new show BUT WHERE ARE THE NEW FACES? Come now, Mandlakazi again? This woman among many others is overused and I am sure we cannot expect any suprises in her style of reporting and interviewing. Kinda like that SABC show where Nikiwe and Seki are co-hosts! Please! poeople even confuse the two as the same person to PROVE that Television is recylcing the same tired faces. I am sure they have horned their skills enough now to stand in the background and start assisting television stations to groom young blood who realy deserve a chance at success and limelight. Even Bassie and the ever chirpy Ursula made room for young, fresh presenters and Top Billing has never looked more fresher and better. Let us encourage a culture of sharing and awarding of opportunities on tv and accross all sectors especially where women are concerned. You would think Leanne Mannas will decide to stay home after maternity leave and raise her child OR better yet, contribute her skills behind the scenes but NO! BEFORE we know it, she will be shouting a non convincing "sharp sharp" on our screens very soon to Vuyo's visible irritation. Without loosing the plot, here, I say to CNBC ......loose MANDLAKAZI and whoever her name is and introduce young blood why don't you! You owe it to all DSTV Subscribers who have to sit through half of CNBC's programme looking at the same faces! Posted on 21 Oct 2009 13:22

Miss Fed Up!-
I'm not sure what you mean about Over used. Would you rather see an inexperienced Presenter handling such an important industry in terms of the advertising world. Come up with a better reason and constructive criticism instead of getting personal! Posted on 18 Nov 2009 20:43
miss fed up-
Well actually i think one of the presenters is extremely inexperienced... Posted on 8 Dec 2009 12:37
Love the show CNBC-
I think it's wonderful that we get to learn from the gurus in the industry. Love the selection for the panel, there are some people out there that want learn learn from mentors and then there are some that are CONCERNED because they have nothing of value to add. Posted on 28 Oct 2009 12:17
