NEWSWATCH: Actor Sello Maake ka-Ncube has criticised the ANC government, saying that Black culture was protected better and heard better under apartheid, reports Business Day. On a lighter note, ZANews, the new satirical news programme, is up and running, reports IOL and Mail & Guardian Online. IOL also reports that Candice Judith (CJ) Benjamin, Lotus FM Youth Crossfire presenter, has apparently lost her job but plans to challenge the SABC.
For more:
  • Business Day: Apartheid did more for black culture, says actor… Award-winning Sello Maake ka-Ncube says Black culture continues to be marginalised; he reckons that in some ways it was actually treated better under apartheid than it is now.
  • IOL: Malema sings Beyonce's hit on ZANews On the new satirical ZANews, the ANCYL leader gets with the mood.
  • Mail & Guardian Online: ZANews: A Molotov cocktail in the making… Executive producer Thierry Cassuto says that the show could be akin to a Molotov cocktail if politicians get upset, but he and the team are determined to make ZA News a feature of the SA satire scene.
  • IOL: Lotus FM DJ to fight for job… Candice Judith (CJ) Benjamin, Lotus FM Youth Crossfire presenter, says all she got was a phone call to inform her that her contract was being terminated. She has denied receiving a "letter of termination" from the SABC and says she's taking legal action.

People should learn to consruct their argumenst better-
This Sello guy obviously isn't smart. Anyone who lived in this country during apartheid is not allowed to ever utter words like "it was better under aparteid", in fact that should not be allowed because he is going for the below the belt effect against the ruling government. I agree that the SABC not doing those whack venac TV shows from the 80's (that were mostly written, directed and produced by white peope btw and so did not even represent black people properly) could be seen as a step backward. But how can anyone with a brain say a system that patronised us black people so long was better? Guy is dumb! But is there an argument to be constructed from his blabbering? Ofcourse, the SABC could have cone more to give airtime to more people of this country and highlight the 11 different languages and cultures and they have failed to do that. But let's face it, this would do more to divide us than anything else. But the compromise they went for - to highlight certain languages - isn't the better alternative. I think these were the very things that the board people were supposed to have been looking at, but we all kow how that went, they were more interested in giving tenders to themselves and their buddies... And, oh, did I mention I think this washed-up actor guy is an idiot! That hunger strike should have killed you, you idiot! Posted on 7 Oct 2009 08:40
Badly written page-

For some reasons the link to Actor Sello Maake ka-Ncube's would be 'terribly interesting' views is broken. I suspect that the editors realize after publishing the Actor's views that somehow it was not too relevant newsworthy and then pulled it off. Dear Editor, what exactly is Actor Sello Maake ka-Ncube saying that you decided to pull off? Posted on 13 Oct 2009 08:57
