Outdoor advertising assists Birdlife South Africa

Continental Outdoor Media and Birdlife South Africa have formed a partnership to combat the destruction of many ecosystems' most important element - birdlife. Continental has donated free space on billboards and now on digital info pods at busy shopping centres.

Birdlife South Africa's mission to raise awareness of critically endangered birds is gaining traction, primarily through the use of creative advertising on effective out of home mediums, said Continental Outdoor Media.

"The clever tagline 'time is running out' used against a graphic of an hour glass containing various birds' habitats, has piqued the interest of many shoppers and benefitted the organisation's cause, which is to recruit more members and secure more funding for the organisation's important bird conservation work," said Lyn Jones, Continental Outdoor Media's marketing manager.

The campaign on the digital info pods (digipod) at Clearwater Mall in Johannesburg has allowed shoppers to interact with the cause while searching for other information.

Jones noted that the digipod is a self-contained multi-screen unit designed specifically to communicate and interact with customers in high footfall destinations. It features a 65" full HD screen that plays content from local, national and global advertisers and messages to promote events and offerings in the shopping centres. Also available to advertisers is the 17" touchscreens that allow for creative flexibility, static images or animated features are available.

"What's significant about these digipods is that there is no production cost. We upload directly through our network. It has proven successful for the organisation and promises many returns on investment for other advertisers," said Jones.
