New website to assist Ugandans in Diaspora shop for relatives in Uganda

Ugandans living in the Diaspora now have an alternative channel to shop and deliver commodities and school fees to their relatives in Uganda following the launch of www.icareug.com, a new commerce website.

Kampala - "Ugandans in the Diaspora will be able to use our website to buy items ranging from airtime, shopping vouchers, mobile phones. They will be able to send school  fees wherever they are and have them delivered to family and friends in Uganda," said Robert Katuntu the MD of I know Information Service, an IT company based in Uganda.

He said that anyone who wishes to send schools fees would simply log on to the website, provide required information and the website would make the necessary arrangements. He was speaking at the launch of the online shopping and service and delivery website in Kampala on August 16.

"People who want to have products made in Uganda can also be able to get them through the same channel and they are shipped to wherever they may be," Katuntu said.

He said people who wish to use their services can visit them at their offices in Kampala or London and pay through PayPal, one of the biggest handlers and processors of online payment in the world. He said, that the cost of transacting any business with I know will depend on the value of commodity to be shopped or delivered.

Katuntu said the company is working with partners in Uganda including Uchumi Supermarket, Midcom, MTN, Celtel, and electronic suppliers LG, among others, to ensure that the service is successful.

Another revamped website http://www.iknowuganda.com, an online information database was also unveiled.  "This website has a large database of companies and other individuals whose business profiles you can get. A person intending to do business in Uganda can get it from the website," Katuntu said.

Kantuntu said Iknow and http://www.icareug.com had put in place security measure to ensure that the company's customers are protected from any property losses. "We will have terms and conditions that we will follow and agreements will be made before transacting business," Katuntu said.
