Passion and tech combine in an inspiring tech first

The world-class University of Cape Town (UCT) has recently signed an agreement with tech-brand Intel to create the first Educational Technology Inquiry Lab (ETILAB).

Professor D Ngambi
A brainchild of UCT's Professor D. Ng'ambi of UCT Education, this campaign is borne out of the vision to create educational opportunities for students to experience teaching and learning practices; and engage with real-life technological solutions which lend themselves to futurist ways of considering challenges.

The project aims to reconstruct thinking processes through creating a space for educators, innovators and designers to converge around a platform that allows these exceptional young minds to use tech to move them forward.

"We want this place to become a sandpit for educators and teachers to play with technologies for teaching and learning," says Ng'ambi.

Global tech-brand Intel collaborates with UCT on the project. The brand-funded initiative represents Intel's commitment to technology and education through innovation.

"This lab is the first of its kind and will hopefully provide an environment for new and different ideas that address global educational challenges. But it is not enough to just have ideas; these ideas need to be aligned to real solutions with a real life action that can be effected by students, teachers and visionaries alike and this is what this innovative programme aims to achieve," says Andre Christian, Education Business Development Manager, Intel South Africa.

The launch event takes place on Thursday, 26 June 2014, at UCT's Graduate School of Humanities where Professor Ng'ambi will address guests and provide insight into the vision that birthed SA's first ETILAB.

The showcase will also feature a talk by Intel's John Davies who will shed light on the global giant's vision and key strategies around the brand's educational focus.

Get inspired by new trends, tech-practices and skills at the launch of the very first ETILAB in Africa at UCT on Thursday 26 June 2014.
