Corporate and personal liability - Are you aware of the devastating consequences of non-compliance?

Business & Professional Women (BPW SA), the Department of Trade & Industry (the dti) and the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC), with input from the JSE, have joined forces to create a unique three-day Women's Empowerment Programme in South Africa to provide women (and men) owned enterprises with the legislative knowledge required to effectively run their business within the parameters of South African law.

Globally, corporate governance, risk mitigation and compliance (GRC) has emerged as a discipline that needs to be thoroughly understood and effectively implemented by an organisation in order to optimally enable the achievement of its strategic direction and to guide operational conduct. As such, organisations of all sizes in South Africa need to develop and apply sound GRC principles and institute high ethical values for the benefit of investors, their stakeholders and the communities in which they operate. Failure to do so will have devastating consequences for the organisation's stakeholders and indeed its supply chain.

This Programme looks at GRC with a 'new set of eyes' and explains its basic principles and importance to all levels of the organisation, while discussing the framework and tools necessary to promote enterprise-wide awareness of its benefits and rewards. Delegates are assured to gain in-depth knowledge of their role in governance, risk and compliance; whilst also understanding the interactive relationships that exist between the board and the organisation's management functions. Irrespective of the delegate's actual knowledge or perceptions about corporate governance, there is no doubt that this subject is not only core to business strategy and the organisation's sustainability, it is also an area that attracts massive attention and personal liability.

The Programme will provoke delegates to think beyond their boundaries in matters relating to GRC and will furthermore raise their awareness toward their joint and individual responsibility attached to their role as directors, executive managers and prescribed officers. Expectedly, delegates will become more informed of their fiduciary duties and liabilities, including a better understanding of the implications of serving as a leader in business. Indeed, GRC applied correctly remains the golden thread to the successes of people and business, but it is critical to understand the manner in which it must be balanced correctly whilst still maintaining a profitable business.
