It is well recorded by world-leading organisations and academics, that there is a huge need and demand for meaningful and quality vocational education at school-level not only in Sub Sahara Africa but in other parts of the world as well. Willowbridge has realised this and it is important, as a college, to offer these qualifications to learners who do not perform well at academic level.

BTEC UK NQF Level 1 from age: 14. (SEN) For those who struggle with traditional learning.

The BTEC Introductory Certificate and Diploma in Vocational Studies are designed to give learners the opportunity to explore and study a variety of different vocational areas which will widen participation and improve retention and attainment at Level 1 of the UK NQF.

These qualifications are an important step in the framework of BTEC vocationally related qualifications, offering learners an introduction into several vocational sectors.

They give opportunities to learners to develop personal skills and attributes in order to develop confidence in their ability to work, learn and achieve their full potential at BTEC UK NQF Level 1. These skills and attributes, coupled with skills for life and key skills mapped to the qualifications, will form the basis of successful study at higher levels.

The BTEC Introductory Certificate and Diploma in Vocational Studies are designed to stimulate and recognise achievement in learners who are:

  • aged 14-19 and may be unsure which vocational pathway to choose and would like the opportunity to study and explore a variety of different vocational areas, have gained some qualifications at entry level, have limited achievement at GCSE grades D - G, want the opportunity to try several different vocational pathways on a course that offers different learning and assessment styles.
  • post-19 and intend to return to education/training or prepare for employment.

    Aims

The aims of BTEC Introductory Certificate and Diploma in Vocational Studies are to:
  • provide specialised studies directly relevant to more than one vocational sector
  • provide a choice of vocational sectors in which learners may intend to seek employment
  • develop a range of employability skills and techniques, understanding, personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in working life
  • develop learners' ability in different vocational sectors through effective use and combination of the knowledge and skills gained in different parts of the qualifications

BTEC UK NQF Level 2 from age: 14.

What is a BTEC Level 2?

Students studying the Edexcel (International GCSE) can add a BTEC UK Level 2 vocational qualification alongside their school curriculum. Students can study a BTEC Level 2 vocational qualification as a standalone qualification and obtain a work related job-skilled qualification.

BTEC Firsts are UK QCF Level 2 qualifications designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors. They give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment. The qualifications also provide career development opportunities for those already in work.

BTEC Firsts provide much of the underpinning knowledge and understanding for the UK National Occupational Standards for the sector, where these are appropriate. They are supported by the relevant Standards Setting Body (SSB) or Sector Skills Council (SSC).

On successful completion of a BTEC First qualification, learners can progress to or within employment and/or continue their study in the same or related vocational area at BTEC Level 3.

The UK QCF is a framework which awards credit for qualifications and units and aims to present qualifications in a way that is easy to understand and measure. It enables learners to gain qualifications at their own pace along flexible routes.

There are three sizes of qualifications in the QCF:
    • Awards (1 to 12 credits)
    • Certificates (13 to 36 credits)
    • Diplomas (37 credits and above)

Live stream virtual classroom - 21st century education

Today's learners are virtual learners, who comprehend by seeing, hearing and observing events for themselves.

In this new concept learners access their daily class lectures as if they are attending a traditional school, but this one is from their home or office.

Willowbridge is using the latest technology available in partnership with world leading software companies, to integrate its interactive whiteboard software with its learner management system together with Edexcel's cutting edge technology, whereby learners can interact with teachers during scheduled classes by asking questions, either by two-way audio, email or Chat, almost in the same manner as a Facebook Chat, which we are all familiar with. All they need is a good quality headset, internet access and a personal computer.

Learners can interact and collaborate with their classmates, take part in group and/or project discussions, upload their tasks, assignments and tests unto our system. These tasks, assignments and tests will be assessed and marked by our highly qualified teachers. With the college's individual learning plan (ILP) teachers and students can specify personal learning goals, areas for improvement, document progress and results, all in a quick and simple format.

Say goodbye to the days of school letters and parental consent forms, posting of tasks and tests going missing, or arrives at your destination days or weeks later. With the learning management system everything is communicated online; accessible anytime, anywhere. No more frustrations!

The Management System is a powerful learning platform equipped with all the necessary functionality to enhance the traditional teaching practices.

Embedding the use of computers in learning not only brings the benefits of computer technology to learning, but it is also vital to develop what are essential life skills in today's world.

  • Learners feel empowered and responsible.
  • Motivation improves as learners learn with technologies they enjoy using.
  • They can learn at their own pace, fully understanding a topic before progressing to the next topic.
  • Learners can ask questions online that they possibly wouldn't in the classroom environment.
  • Learners have 24/7, 365 days a year access to their daily class lectures, enabling them to review their class of the day anytime during their academic year, as class lectures are uploaded and stored on Cloud, within minutes after the end of a class lecture.

    Student Enrolments
Willowbridge College two has enrolments per academic year, the first intake is for January and the second intake for July of each academic year. It is important that students enroll on time, as the college orders the latest textbooks from the UK and on receipt (two to three weeks later) and then couriers the student textbooks to their destination in their country of residence.
