The Open Window School of Visual Communication - 2013

It has been a busy and productive time at The Open Window and we are proud to say that we have had another year filled with great success and amazing work being produced by our students and staff.

Some of our 2013 Industry highlights:

Shop for Fresh Talent

Our first annual Shop for Fresh Talent Industry Evening took place on Thursday, 24 October. The event was an excellent networking opportunity where our final year students met with industry leaders for employment, internships and mentoring opportunities. This was met with great enthusiasm from both students and the industry and will definitely become an annual event on our calendar.

Talent Scout Facebook Competition

We recently held our annual Talent Scout Facebook Competition. Matric students and individuals who have already completed matric were invited to submit their best artwork with the possibility of receiving a year's free tuition. We received more than 70 entries and four finalists were chosen to come for selection interviews. The winner, Kevin Radebe from National School of Arts, receives a year's tuition. Congratulations!

Student & Staff Exhibition 2013

Our annual celebration of the work done by the final year students at The Open Window took place on 21 November. This took place in the form of a Student Exhibition. More than 100 students showcased and celebrated their best work. For the very first time, the staff members of The Open Window also showcased their skills with a Staff Exhibition on the same evening. We are very proud of this and it was loved by visitors from other institutions and especially by industry experts.

Prince Albert Open Window Experimental Film Festival

The Prince Albert Open Window Experimental Film Festival took place on 29 & 30 November in the heart of the Karoo. The Film Festival showcased short films that encouraged innovative thinking and new ways of using the audio-visual medium. Silent movie classics with soundtracks created and performed live by South African musicians were also screened. We are incredibly proud to be involved in events across the country.

Student exhibitions are great places for students to showcase their work without fears of getting a low mark. The environment is relaxed and yet they know that there's a lot of at stake. Happiness in the midst of pressure. - Marj of Essaymama.
