Interactive workshops for aspirant screenwriters, playwrights, creative writers in Cape Town

During November and December 2015, the Writing Studio will present pro-active and interactive workshops for aspiring screenwriters, playwrights and creative writers at its studio in Cape Town. The workshops will take writers through the process of writing a new screenplay, play or novel, with additional one-on-one sessions to develop the drafts.

The course runs for four Saturdays - 31 October, 7, 14, and 21 November, from 2pm until 5pm and is ideal for aspirant screenwriters who would like to sharpen their storytelling skills. This unique 4-Saturday afternoon workshop explores the fine art of writing visual narrative, mastering the skill of plotting and structure, and developing and exploring ideas and characters. It is a journey into the world of story, empowering storytellers. The writers will write the first 10 pages of their screenplay during the workshop that will be evaluated and developed during further one-on-one sessions

The Write Voice creative writing workshop offers write skills. The four-Saturday morning workshop takes place on 21, 28 November and 5, 12 December from 10am until 1pm. The Write Voice is ideal for anyone who needs a jump start and take that step forward in writing creatively. The writers will write a short story that will be read to the group at the last session.

A pro-active The Drama Of Writing A Play workshop will take place on Saturday 28 November, 5 and 12 December and 9 January 2016 from 2pm until 5pm, giving aspirant scribes an opportunity of step outside the box and take on the role of director, or even actor, and turn words into action. This unique workshop for aspirant dramatists is ideal for storytellers with a vivid imagination who would like to explore the magic of live theatre and the transformational impact it has on society and community.

The writing coach is Daniel Dercksen, the driving force behind the successful independent training initiative The Writing Studio, who is a published film and theatre journalist for 30 years and has been teaching workshops in creative writing, playwriting and screenwriting throughout South Africa the past 19 years. The scribes will write a scene from their play that will be performed at the last session of the workshop.
