Do you lie awake worrying about money? About giving your children all that they deserve and keeping the roof over their head? These concerns are very real for many people throughout the country, especially at this time of economic difficulty. Something that is very pertinent and is often neglected because of our personal concerns is the worrying amount of children and babies in distress. 24 May to 4 June is Child Protection Week and every little human in our nation deserves this basic right. There are over 1.8 million orphaned children in our country, these children's wants are the same as ours yet they are unable to satisfy their basic needs.
In an effort to support the unfortunate plight of many children in South Africa and to draw attention to what businesses and consumers can do to support our nation's littlies, the Pretoria/Midrand
SABC Education Baba Indaba will see celebrity appearances and donation drives galore this weekend.
The
Tshwane Place of Safety Association (TPoSA) is a Pretoria-based non-profit organisation that addresses the growing need for the dedicated care of babies and toddlers in distress. Their celebrity patrons -
Pierre van Pletzen - Oubaas in 7de Laan on SABC 2 and his wife Sandra Vaughn - Anke in Getroud met Rugby on kykNET will make an appearance at the show on Sunday from 12:00 to 14:00. Visitors will be encouraged to come along to have their photos taken with them with all proceeds going to the charity.
Another exhibitor, Caitlin's Castings, will be offering a 10-minute neck and back professional massage costing R50, all proceeds will be donated to the non-profit organisation
Return To Roots Foundation which encourages integrity, grace and humility and deals with child abuse, human trafficking, rape prevention and trauma counselling so you can feel great and support a worthy cause.
Romy Titus of
Morning Live will be presenting a fashion show of maternity wear from Maternity Lane and informing people about the
"Babies Behind Bars" campaign that she supports and how we can assist by donating any baby clothing, food, bottles and so forth.
Also appearing will be dynamic artist
Neville Smith who will be performing on stage on the 29th and 30th May. He will appear on both days at 4pm and will delight the audience, children and adults, young and old, with his superb vocal range.
In addition to these initiatives, the SABC Education Baba Indaba will be donating 5% of all door takings to the Red Cross Children's Hospital Trust and by donating R10 to the children's hospital visitors will get their baby or toddlers' photo taken with a choice of cartoon characters and help those in need of medical treatment.
