SABC Education Baba Indaba Durban ended on a high note at the end of a long weekend. Neither the rain, rugby or extra public holidays, could keep the 21 537 Baba Indaba visitors away. The increased percentage of pregnant women indicated that Baba Indaba is clearly a platform used to purchase and make informed decisions regarding parenting.
The organisers were inundated with members of the press, resulting in front page coverage in the Daily Mail. Only praise for the expo with lots of laughter and fun were key ingredients to this year's Durban show. The annual “Baba Indaba-weekend” is undoubtedly a fixture on the Durban calendar, often referred to as peak season amongst the guesthouses.
Once again the exhibitors delivered on the superior quality of their stands. "It's always great to see the innovative methods our exhibitors introduce at every show, by having aesthetically pleasing stands," says Natalie Naude, Show Director of SABC Education Baba Indaba. "Durban seems to come up trumps every time."
This year we introduced B-Bucks that were won in the Dad's Pram Obstacle Race. Instead of giving a pram away as a prize, 1000 B-Bucks were given away per day. The B-Bucks had to be spent at Baba Indaba, which encouraged higher turnover among the exhibitors and eliminated any purchases to occur outside of the expo.
Huggies - the official logo sponsor for SABC Education Baba Indaba, made many a heart happy by handing out soft toys with diaper purchases. Each day a lucky winner received a huge Huggbear as a supreme prize.
The Baby Company sponsored the Speakers' Corner where informal, informative talks were held. Mums and Dads had a unique opportunity to chat to the speakers about positive parenting with ADHD and nutrition as well as how to go about banking their babies stem cells. The Baby Company sent a strong message that they are more than just a retailer, there position in the market embodies educating young parents.
The Rama Idea Kids Kitchen was a fantastic hit with the children and mums alike. Rama Idea introduced their new Omega-3 enriched margarine by aligning the brand with healthy living and wholesome diets among young families.
Even though 2009 seems far away, the search for the Face of Baba Indaba kicked off in Durban. With 300 entrants, the organisers are going to have a difficult task making a decision.
