Major automotive expo launches in Joburg

2015 sees the country's two largest automotive shows take place. Automechanika launched at the Joburg Country Club with guest speaker and scenario planner Clem Sunter entertaining the audience with his insight into the global and South African economy. He described the global economy as playing in a Premier League because soccer clubs compete against each other just as intensely as countries do.

To keep a country moving forward, one element that Sunter focuses on is creating a balanced economy.

"It is critical that the country plays to its strengths to win in the ultra-competitive game which the international arena represents," says Sunter. One such strength includes tourism in South Africa. Exhibitions such as Automechanika fall under business tourism with the 2013 expo attracting over 467 international exhibitors out of a total of 643 exhibitors. This brings huge income into the local economy.
"At present South Africa is a relatively cheap destination with some world-class cities and attractions. Now is the time the country should offer itself as a real value-for-money tourist attraction."

Furthermore Africa is home to six of the top ten fastest growing economies in the world.

"As Africa's largest and most advanced economy (currently), and with the continent's best banking system and stock exchange, it makes sense that South Africa should be the natural place for western multinationals to kick-start their campaigns to access Africa's markets."

Automechanika is brought to South Africa by Messe Frankfurt and is managed locally by EXSA member SA Show Services. Messa Frankfurt is one of the world's leading exhibition organisers who have shown great confidence in the South African exhibition arena. At the launch, Project Manager Pula Dippenaar presented show highlights for 2015. She explained that product groups would be designed to match industry demand. Product groups for 2015 encompass: Parts and Components, Electronics and Systems, Accessories and Tuning, Repair and Maintenance, IT and Management as well as Service Station and Car Wash.

2015 will be a bumper motor-show year with the fourth edition of Automechanika taking place from 6-9 May 2015 and JIMS (The Johannesburg International Motor Show) taking place from 14-25 October 2015.

Both shows are highlighted on the EXSA Calendar of Exhibitions and Events which can be found on the EXSA website
